WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has filed a motion to vacate Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), according to the New York Post.

Adding another layer of uncertainty to the already tense situation, Greene's move comes after the House rushes to pass a partial government spending bill to avert a midnight shutdown.

House shocked by Marjorie Taylor Greene's move to oust Mike Johnson

Greene's motion that blindsided House lawmakers sent shockwaves through the House chambers and her move comes less than five months after House Republicans ousted former Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Sources indicate that she would have to announce the motion to vacate Johnson at one of the chamber's microphones. However, a potential resistance from House leadership is expected.

On Thursday morning, March 21, hardline House Republicans expressed frustration over the last-minute unveiling of the 1,012-page bill before the partial government shutdown on Friday, March 22.

Despite some Republicans hinting at discontent with Johnson's leadership, Greene's move gaining traction remains uncertain.

On October 3, 2023, eight Republicans led by Representative Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) voted with every House Democrat to remove McCarthy who then resigned from Congress in December 2023.

Marjorie Taylor says she's on a minute-by-minute basis

During her appearance on Steve Bannon's podcast 'Bannon's War Room' on Friday morning, March 22, Greene criticized Johnson claiming he gave too much away to President Joe Biden and Democrats during government funding negotiations.

She further told Bannon that she has serious plans to file a vacation to remove the Speakership.

“We are making that decision on a minute-by-minute basis today, Steve, and I think you can stay tuned,” she shared.

When pressed by host Bannon about her intentions to vacate Johnson, she stated that decisions are being made on a minute-by-minute basis.

“We are going to be making decisions on a minute-by-minute basis today, and I urge you to watch and see what happens,” Greene told Bannon.

"Republicans most certainly cannot govern. This is a trainwreck," a user wrote and another user commented, "They can’t govern! They don’t get along! What a mess."
