BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS: President Joe Biden extended an olive branch to his predecessor, Donald Trump, during their dueling visit to the southern border in Texas as the migrant crisis takes center stage of the 2024 presidential election.

According to CNN, Biden invited his likely presidential opponent to join hands to pass the bipartisan border deal, which could resolve the immigration crisis.

In his Brownsville remarks, Biden said, "So here's what I would say to Mr Trump. Set a planned policy position instead of telling members of Congress to block this legislation." Directly addressing Trump, he added, "Join me, or I'll join you in telling the Congress to pass this bipartisan border security bill. We can do it together."

The former President visited Eagle Pass in Texas the same day, accompanied by Gov. Greg Abbott. The ex-president took the opportunity to blame his successor for the increased crime due to a massive influx of undocumented migrants.

Joe Biden urges Donald Trump to stop playing politics with border

The President directly appealed to Trump to jointly resolve the border crisis while emphasizing the efficiency of the border security bill.

Claiming the border control "desparately" needed more resources, Biden stated, "It's long past time to act," reported NBC News.

"You know and I know it's the toughest, most efficient, most effective border security bill this country's ever seen," the incumbent said. "So instead of playing politics with the issue, why don't we just get together and get it done?"

In February, the Senate blocked a $118 billion bipartisan border bill, denying Biden a legislative victory ahead of the election. Furthermore, reports claimed the ex-president's role in pressuring the GOP Senators to thwart the bill.

Responding to Biden's call, Trump's national press secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized the President for not taking responsibility for the issue.

"Instead of shifting the blame on everyone but himself, Joe Biden should take responsibility for the border crisis, deaths, and destruction that his policies have caused, say Laken Riley's name, and use his executive power to shut the border down today," she said in a statement.

The former President, in his border speech, pointed fingers at the President for the death of a 22-year-old nursing student this month. Laken Riley, a student at the University of Georgia, was allegedly killed by an illegal Venezuelan migrant. Trump accused Biden of releasing the "illegal alien migrant" into the community, as per CNN.

While the GOP frontrunner has visited the border many times, this is Biden's second visit since he took office in 2021.

Internet reacts to Joe Biden's plea to Donald Trump

Netizens had mixed responses to Biden inviting Trump to work for a secure border jointly. Some social media users pointed out that the border crisis was only a "scapegoat" for the former President, whereas another group applauded the incumbent's move.

One user remraked, "Trump wants scapegoats not solutions !!"

"Trump doesn't want a solution to the problem. He wants a campaign talking point," opined another.

Whereas a third user stated, "Asking for Trump's help makes Biden look weak."

"I don’t care if he had a teleprompter, which he probably did, but that’s a mic drop moment. Time to step up Trump. What are you gonna say now. Clock’s ticking on you too, Johnson. No more excuses," a fourth response read.

Another user added, "Low key a brilliant move by Biden, the ball is now in Trumps court."
