Biden praises new border deal as 'toughest and fairest' in decades, but Internet brands it 'garbage'
WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden lauded the long-sought Senate bipartisan border deal released on Sunday, February 4, reported The Hill.
The President, who consistently urged the lawmakers to give him more power to manage the border crisis, expressed his "strong support" for the agreement in a statement issued by the White House.
"Now we've reached an agreement on a bipartisan national security deal that includes the toughest and fairest set of border reforms in decades. I strongly support it," Biden wrote, adding the members of his administration worked round the clock to reach a deal to address the worsening immigration crisis.
Democratic Sen Chris Murphy, independent Sen Kyrsten Sinema, and Republican Sen James Lankford were the key negotiators of the 370-page bill.
The bill will be kept for voting in the Senate next week. However, the fear of failure looms as former president Donald Trump has been pressuring the GOP Senators to thwart it to prevent a legislative victory for his successor ahead of the November presidential election. And if passed, it will likely cause a clash on the GOP-controlled House floor.
Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his outrage over the deal, saying it was "even worse than expected" and would be "dead on arrival" if it reached the lower Chamber.
Joe Biden lists out the key points of the deal
President Biden, in his statement, gave an overview of the major provisions of the bipartisan border deal.
Claiming the agreement would make the US and the border more secure, fair, and humane treatment of people along with preserving legal immigration, Biden stated, "It would give me, as President, a new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed."
He further added the bill would make the asylum process "fairer," "expedite work permits," "create more opportunities for families to come together," and "paid legal representation" for unaccompanied young children."
According to Biden, the deal contains provisions to add "border patrol agents, immigration judges, asylum officers, and cutting-edge inspection machines to help detect and stop the flow of fentanyl."
"While this agreement doesn't address everything I would have wanted, these reforms are essential for making our border more orderly, secure, fair, and humane," he added.
The entire supplemental of the bill, totaling $180 billion, also includes financial aid to Israel and Ukraine.
Biden urged the Republican-led House to keep politics aside and come together to "swiftly pass" the bipartisan deal to secure the border.

Trump's meddling in the border crisis, along with his allies constantly attacking the President on the worsening situation at the border, continues to pose a threat to Biden's vision to pass the deal ahead of the November election.

It's not happening!
"It is absolutely horrible!" a third user opined. Another added, "Hopefully the House won’t support this farce."
One response read, "Biden doesn't know the first thing about fair - or tough."
"It’s the opposite of fair and tough. Most of the money goes overseas. The Border doesn’t need money. It needs the federal government to enforce the current laws on the books. This bill is a scam," a sixth user wrote.

Another user wrote, "It’s not rough and fair. Still allows 5,000 a day and gives way too much money to NGOs who bring them here. Not acceptable."
