NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: US representative Marjorie Taylor Greene's latest remarks, about the recent earthquake in New York City being a divine message for America, have sparked quite a frenzy on social media with many users jumping in to poke fun at her.

In a recent interview on the Tucker Carlson Network, Greene faced a barrage of criticism after she shared a clip emphasizing the power of the American people to rein in the government when they feel they've had enough.

Adding fuel to the fire, Greene raised eyebrows by suggesting that migrants are signing up to vote in the upcoming presidential election using their social security numbers (SSN), and she called for stricter voter identification laws to prove citizenship. These statements stirred a wave of online trolling directed at her.

According to the Hill, Greene believes that the recent earthquakes and an upcoming eclipse are clear signals from God that America needs to change its ways. This declaration came shortly after tremors shook the New York City area on Friday.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Greene wrote, "God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent. Earthquakes and eclipses and many more things to come. I pray that our country listens. 🙏"

As per the Hill, these statements from the alleged conspiracy theorist emerged mere hours after a 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Lebanon, New Jersey, approximately 50 miles from Manhattan. The quake was detected at a depth of around 3 miles, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Greene made her remarks as a total solar eclipse is set to cast shadows over parts of North America on Monday. Interestingly, Georgia, Greene's home state, won't witness the full eclipse. This event is significant because it's the first total solar eclipse since 2017, and the next one isn't expected until August 2044, as per NASA.

Responding to Greene's theories on X, a community note was shared later, stating, "Earthquakes happen all the time, all around the world, we can follow them realtime using USGS resources. Eclipses are not random, they follow strict mathematical rules and can be predicted centuries before they happen. NASA has a site listing eclipses until the year 3000."

Internet users say 'MAGA Americans dumbest in world'

A user on X wrote, "Marjorie, thank you for keeping the oldest jokes about ignorant Republicans alive."

Another user wrote, "God sent us all of you do-nothing House Republicans to remind us how important it is that we vote, so that this catastrophe of bad Republican leadership never happens again."

A user commented, "Sit down Marge, you're way out of your league here."

Another user commented, "Earthquakes and eclipses happen all the time Marge. Remind me who the president was when we were met with a once in a lifetime global pandemic."

A user stated, "MAGA Americans are officially the dumbest people in the world🤦🏻‍♂️"
