LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kim Kardashian has shared a vulnerable health update that carries an emotional connection to her late father, Robert Kardashian.

In the new trailer for the upcoming season of 'The Kardashians', released Thursday, September 17, the 45-year-old socialite revealed that she has been diagnosed with esophagitis.

The condition affects the esophagus, the same organ where her father developed cancer before his death in 2003 at age 59.

The newly released trailer showed Kim casually saying, “I have something called esophagitis.”

The next footage showed her lying on a hospital bed as someone asked her, “Didn’t your father isn’t that what he died of?” to which she replied, “Yeah.”

The camera then cut to her mother, Kris Jenner, who told the camera, “I can’t. It makes me want to cry.”

Though the trailer did not disclose how severe Kim’s diagnosis is, as per the University of Washington’s Division of Gastroenterology, chronic esophagitis is “very common.”

Also, according to Mayo Clinic, “Esophagitis is swelling and irritation, called inflammation, of the tissues that line the esophagus.”

“Esophagitis (uh-sof-uh-JIE-tis) can cause painful, difficult swallowing. Some common causes include stomach acids backing up into the esophagus, infection, medicines taken by mouth and allergies,” it adds.

After Robert’s death, his daughters Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim have continued to talk about and honor their late father.

The mother of four shared in February 2024 on SiriusXM’s ‘This Life of Mine with James Corden’, “Of course I wish he saw our life right now. Of course I wish he was there to study with me and see my kids grow up and everything.”

“But that’s not our reality, so I’m not going to get stuck in that place of what could’ve been but just be so grateful for what I have,” Kim added.

Kim Kardashian says UCLA esophageal health center is something her father would be proud of

Kim has also spoken about the UCLA Robert G Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health in Los Angeles, which was opened in her father’s memory.

She once reportedly revealed, “I have friends that I have referred to the Robert G. Kardashian Center, and it has saved their lives. It makes me proud to hear them be so grateful that they found a place that was dedicated to the one thing that would help them.”

In a 2025 episode of 'The Kardashians', the businesswoman shared, “There’s a few things in life that my dad would be really proud of us for and this is definitely one of them. We weren’t able to save his life with this new technology and with the access to these doctors, but now we can help save other people’s lives.”

'The Kardashians' Season 8 is set to premiere on Hulu on October 8.
