Kristi Noem files for divorce after 34 Years of marriage amid months of speculation

WASHINGTON,DC: Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has filed for divorce from her husband, Bryon Noem, after 34 years of marriage.

This official petition filed on Monday, September 28, emerged following intense, months-long focus on their domestic affairs, fueled by a scandal involving Bryon.

Legal documents point to a solitary rationale for the separation, 'irreconcilable differences', yet they omit the specific event that shattered their union.

Divorce after months of speculation

Noem filed for divorce in Hamlin County, South Dakota, according to court records. 

The documents bring an official development to months of speculation surrounding the couple.

The filing identifies irreconcilable differences as the basis for the divorce.

Kristi and Bryon married on May 23, 1992 and their marriage has lasted for 34 years.

Bryon has not commented publicly on the filing despite media organizations seeking a response.

The timing is notable because questions about the couple had intensified earlier this year.

In March, the Daily Mail published allegations concerning Bryon’s online conversations with several women.

The report said it had reviewed hundreds of messages and alleged that Bryon discussed his interest in women with heavily augmented appearances.

A representative for Kristi Noem said at the time that she was devastated by the revelations and that the family had been caught off guard.

However, the court documents do not state that the controversy involving Bryon caused the divorce.

The only reason identified in the filing is irreconcilable differences, meaning the reported allegations should not be presented as the stated cause of the breakup.

Marriage faced growing scrutiny

The controversy surrounding Bryon did not emerge in isolation.

Kristi Noem’s personal life had already attracted attention amid reports concerning her relationship with Corey Lewandowski, a longtime political figure who worked with President Donald Trump.

Noem and Lewandowski have denied allegations that they had an affair.

Then, in July, Noem’s mother, Corinne Arnold, spoke publicly about the marriage and indicated that divorce proceedings were expected.

“I feel bad, sick that they’re getting a divorce, but what else can you do?” Arnold had said.

Arnold said her daughter had consulted a lawyer, effectively putting the possibility of a split into the public conversation months before the court filing became visible.

The divorce filing now establishes that Noem had finally taken formal legal steps.
