LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Gillian Greene, the wife of filmmaker Sam Raimi, has reportedly decided to go separate ways from her husband as she filed for divorce on Wednesday, May 8.

The 56-year-old producer has claimed “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind the divorce decision as she submitted papers in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, PEOPLE reported.

The publication also mentioned that in her submission, Greene has asked for spousal support and wants the court to dismiss Raimi's ability to get alimony from her.

Besides, the soon-to-be-divorced pair will reportedly divide their assets and property as they separate.

The duo tied the knot in 1993 and welcomed five children together — Lorne Raimi, Henry Raimi, Emma Raimi, Dashiell Raimi, and Oliver Raimi.

The court papers reportedly noted that the ‘Spider-Man’ director and Greene got married on September 17, 1993. But the documents stated the date of separation as “TBD”.

Sam Raimi does not confirm the fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film

This came a month after Raimi addressed the rumors about a fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film.

He told CBR, “Well, I haven't heard about that yet. I did read that, but I'm not actually working on it yet.”

The 64-year-old screenwriter continued, “I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [movies], and the track there, and I don't know that they're going to go back to me, and say, 'Well, folks, we can also tell that story!' I'm not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies.

“I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it.”

Raimi also stated that Maguire has not “talked to Tobey about it [the film], but maybe Marvel has, or Columbia Pictures.”

“But, I just worked with Marvel on a movie called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, I'm on great terms with them. I'm sure I would hear about it if it was in the works. I think so. I don't know,” he added.

People speculate possible reasons behind the divorce

Meanwhile, some have reacted to Raimi and Greene’s divorce news.

A reader below the Daily Mail article speculated, “The usual reason is one of them was caught cheating.”

Another one commented, “You don’t just up and divorce after all these years, do you? Sounds like someone strayed….”

A third one wrote, “Actually, it's more likely they just got bored with each other and had nothing left in common once the kids grew up.  He's probably a workaholic and she wants some company once in a while.  He wants to live near the work studio, she's ready for a cottage on the beach.  People grow apart after 30 years.”

“‘Gray Divorce’. It's happening more and more among my generation,” a fourth one remarked.

A fifth one added, “That's too bad. He's a brilliant filmmaker.”
