Kylie Jenner leaves Timothee Chalamet out of Met Gala over ‘curse’ fears for relationship
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Reality television star and beauty mogul Kylie Jenner reportedly made a deliberate decision not to attend the 2026 Met Gala alongside her boyfriend, actor Timothee Chalamet, due to concerns surrounding the long-rumored "Met Gala curse."
The pair reportedly avoided making a joint appearance because of the infamous superstition tied to the event that many believe has doomed celebrity romances, while Chalamet instead spent the evening attending the New York Knicks playoff game.
Kylie Jenner reportedly avoids Met Gala appearance with Timothee Chalamet over ‘curse’ fears
A source told Page Six that Jenner and Chalamet had “intentionally avoided” attending the Met Gala together over the last few years because they did not want to risk the alleged “Met Gala curse.” The superstition refers to the belief that celebrity couples who make their relationship public at the event often end up separating afterward.
The insider claimed Jenner became especially cautious because of her own past experience with rapper Travis Scott. Jenner attended the Met Gala with Scott in both 2018 and 2019 before the couple later split permanently in January 2023.
The former couple began dating in 2017 and share two children together, daughter Stormi and son Aire.
The report also noted that Jenner did not want “bad luck attached” to her relationship with Chalamet and was unwilling to take chances. The couple were first linked romantically in April 2023 and have largely kept their relationship private despite multiple public outings together.
Instead of joining Jenner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Chalamet attended the Knicks versus Philadelphia 76ers playoff game. The actor later shared an Instagram Story showing his courtside view, while the Knicks also posted footage of him greeting fellow fan Tracy Morgan during the game.
Celebrity couples fuel ongoing ‘Met Gala curse’ speculation
The report also referenced several celebrity couples who have been linked to the rumored curse, including Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson, who ended their relationship in August 2022, just months after attending the Met Gala together.
Similarly, actress Katie Holmes and actor Jamie Foxx ended their relationship weeks after appearing together at the 2019 Met Gala. Actress Amanda Seyfried and Justin Long reportedly separated four months after making their Met Gala debut in 2015.
The article further mentioned Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, who attended the Met Gala together in 2019 during their marriage before announcing their separation later that same year.
Despite Chalamet’s absence, Jenner still drew major attention at the 2026 Met Gala with her elaborate Schiaparelli gown featuring pearls, an embellished train, and a nude illusion corset design. The couple later reunited in New York City for outings together following the event, including courtside appearances at Knicks playoff games.
