Fact Check: Did Travis Scott mock Timothée Chalamet after his Oscar loss?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: As the 98th Academy Awards came to a close, a post circulating on social media claimed that rapper Travis Scott allegedly mocked actor Timothée Chalamet after he lost the Oscar for Best Actor to Michael B. Jordan. Let us analyse and fact-check whether Scott actually mocked Chalamet.
Claim: Travis Scott mocked Timothée Chalamet for Oscar loss
The claim surfaced in the form of a screenshot from the official Instagram account of the rapper, in which he simply wrote, “LMAOOOOOO.” The post alleged that Scott deleted it soon afterwards.
The purported screenshot shared on X was accompanied by a caption stating, “Travis Scott reacts to Timothée Chalamet losing the Oscar for Best Actor. The post is now deleted.”
The post has garnered thousands of views and likes at the time of writing, and the people commenting under the post appear to believe the claim to be true.
Fact Check: The claim originated as a satire
The claim, however, is false, and originated from a popular parody account called ‘Daily Noud,’ which posts fake and unverified claims for the sake of engagement.
The account describes itself as a ‘Parody Hip Hop News,’ in the bio and states, ‘These are fake stories.’
Although the post claims that the purported screenshot has been deleted, there is no evidence that Travis Scott mocked the ‘Marty Supreme’ actor for losing the prestigious award.
Moreover, there is also no mention of Chalamet in the purported screenshot. Hence, the claim is rated as a satire.
A fact by Grok, the AI assistant of X, also debunked the claim, stating, “The account specializes in fabricated hip-hop stories for virality, amplifying speculation of a feud rooted in Scott's past relationship with Kylie Jenner, now linked to Chalamet.”
Timothée Chalamet was nominated for his role in 'Marty Supreme'
Meanwhile, Chalamet garnered attention during the red carpet at the Academy Awards as he arrived in a white suit and donned black sunglasses. He complemented the look with multiple statement rings, a wristwatch, and white boots.
He earned the nomination for Best Actor for his role in 'Marty Supreme', a sports-comedy drama helmed by Josh Safdie. Chalamet competed in the category against Michael B Jordan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Wagner Moura, and Ethan Hawke.
Despite earning praise for his performance, Chalamet lost the award to Michael B. Jordan, who emerged victorious for his critically-acclaimed role in 'Sinners.'
Chalamet had already received two Best Actor nominations earlier. He was also nominated for his role in the 2024 Bob Dylan biopic 'A Complete Unknown,' and for the 2017 coming-of-age romantic drama 'Call Me By Your Name.'
