COLORADO: Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has introduced a controversial piece of legislation targeting a senior federal official with a drastic salary cut.

The proposed amendment to a funding bill seeks to cut the salary of Melissa Schwartz, Director of Communications in the Office of Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, to $1. This action is reported to be a direct retaliation by Boebert in response to Schwartz’s criticism of her.

Lauren Boebert slams Melissa Schwartz on House Floor

On the House floor, Lauren Boebert criticized Melissa Schwartz as "yet another horrendous and miserable use of taxpayer dollars" labeling her a "mask-wearing, quadruple-vaxed, Green New Deal extremist and, unfortunately, a liberal troll who has harassed me even in committee hearing rooms. She shouldn't be employed at the Department of [the] Interior. Melissa Schwartz belongs under a bridge."

"Melissa has the nerve and lack of respect to confront me in the halls of Congress following a Department of Interior meeting," she added. "In this hearing, she had the audacity to come and personally attack a member of Congress."

Lauren Boebert’s proposal follows previous unsuccessful attempts by GOP

The proposal to slash Melissa Schwartz’s salary comes amid other attempts by GOP lawmakers to target officials in President Joe Biden's administration. Previous efforts by Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to cut the salaries of Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to $1 were unsuccessful.

"This DEI hire made clear she doesn't work for the American people and she is simply another misguided mouthpiece for liberal extremists that hates conservatives and people that disagree with her eccentric views," Boebert criticized Schwartz, using a term often employed by conservatives to suggest that non-white, female, or LGBTQ employees were hired not for their qualifications but to fulfill diversity, equity, and inclusion quotas.

The lawmaker has expressed interest in becoming the Secretary of the Interior if Donald Trump secures another term in office. “I think Lauren Boebert needs to be the secretary of the Interior," Boebert told Native America Calling, referring to herself in the third person.

"President Trump, I would like to be Secretary of the Interior," reported MEAWW.

Public outcry follows Lauren Boebert's retaliatory move against federal official

Responses on social media to Rep Lauren Boebert's controversial amendment targeting Melissa Schwartz's salary have been swift and varied.

A social media user tweeted, "If anyone's salary should be reduced to $1, Bobo would be in the top five. And, she should have to pay us damages for having to listen to her."

Another said, "Ah, the party of free speech."

A third claimed, "They should start with her ..."

"Well, that should certainly make America great again," chimed a user.

"Bobo is a joke," stated a user.

"Lauren….YOUR FIRED!!!" read a tweet.

"Irony is NOT her strong suit," said a user.

"She will be Sec of Outhouses if she is lucky," penned an individual.
