LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Liam Payne’s tragic death at 31 on October 16 after he fell off his hotel balcony in Argentina has brought his fans' attention to his history of drug and substance abuse.

However, recently, a source close to the boyband singer told Page Six that Payne overdosed and had to be revived at least once because of his drug addiction.

The source close to the One Direction singer further revealed that while Payne suffered the fatal fall apparently under the influence of drugs, it was not the first time that he experienced the same level of drug-induced incapacitation.

Liam Payne had a history of overdosing in the past

A senior music industry insider, who has been close to Liam Payne since his days as a member of One Direction, recently revealed to Page Six that Payne has overdosed at least twice in the recent past.

The insider claimed that Payne’s friends and former colleagues were left in shock when the ‘Strip That Down’ singer’s manager signed him up for the Netflix show ‘Building the Band’ alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland.

The source explained that the reason for their shock stemmed from the fact that Payne was just out of rehab when the deal was finalized.

“His manager pushed him to do the show and there were a lot of worried texts exchanged between us,” dished the source before adding, “We were shocked, there was no way he was in any shape to do this.”

They explained that the singer was further pushed to desolation as he was “isolated” from the very group of friends who were his well-wishers.

“Liam had, in the last few months, become very isolated by a new group of people away from [those] who cared for him and who’d been trying to help him for a long time,” explained the insider.

Another source blamed Payne’s new manager for isolating him from the bosom of his well-wishers, claiming, “Liam’s manager moved him to Miami and away from all of his friends, he isolated him.”

They noted that the new manager further pushed Payne to go back to touring.

The source further highlighted that Payne was never the same after his band One Direction went into a hiatus in 2015 after discontent rose among the members.

Liam Payne allegedly did not recoup after his manager resigned

Liam Payne was not only heartbroken after his band went into a hiatus but was left shattered when his former manager resigned. Before his death, a source told The Sun on October 8, that Liam Payne never recovered after his manager resigned.

The source said, “Things are tough for Liam at the moment,” and noted, “His former manager Roger stepped back earlier this year. He was a steady hand for Liam and he appears to be struggling without his guidance.”

“Things have started to seem slightly erratic, with plans being made before they are canceled last minute,” continued the source.
