WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Lindsey Graham urged former President Donald Trump to concentrate on policy rather than showmanship to win the 2024 election against Democratic contender Kamala Harris.

Graham, representing South Carolina, reiterated former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley's remarks from the previous week, encouraging Trump to engage in substantial policy discussions instead of launching personal attacks against Vice President Harris.

Lindsey Graham expects Trump to define what he'll do for the country in the 'last 80 days'

“President Trump can win this election. His policies are good for America, and if you have a policy debate for president, he wins,” Graham said during his appearance on NBC's 'Meet the Press' on Sunday, August 17. “Donald Trump the provocateur, the showman, may not win this election.”

“I’m looking for President Trump to show up in the last 80 days to define what he will do for our country, to fix broken borders, to lower inflation,” Graham added.

The senator emphasized that compelling Harris to justify her record as vice president could place Democrats in a difficult position, as per New York Post.

“A nightmare for Harris is to defend her policy choices,” Graham surmised. “Every day we’re not talking about her policy choices as vice president, and what she would do as president, is a good day for her and a bad day for us."

He further stated, “Policy is the key to the White House.”

Recently, Haley, the final contender against Trump in the 2024 GOP primary, cautioned that the former president, known for criticizing Harris on her racial identity and appearance, must "seriously shift" his attention to more pressing domestic issues.

Lindsey Graham suggests leading Republicans should campaign for Donald Trump

The senator from the Palmetto State emphasized that leading Republicans, even those who criticize Trump's brash tactics and unrestrained political style, should “actually campaign for the guy rather than just give advice.”

“Me and Nikki need to go to Georgia. We’re giving advice on TV to President Trump,” he mentioned on 'Meet the Press', in reference to individuals like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R). “Let’s get together and actually campaign for the guy.”

Other allies of Trump, including former adviser Kellyanne Conway, have also emphasized to him that the key to victory is, “fewer insults, more insights and that policy contrast.”

GOP vice-presidential nominee JD Vance acknowledged the criticisms, especially those coming from Haley.

“I think Ambassador Haley is right that we have to reach a broader group of voters, but I think that we’re doing exactly that,” Vance told 'Fox News Sunday'.

“We’ve been making a very simple argument that when Kamala Harris became president or vice president, I should say, she caused policies that led to a rapid increase in inflation and a rise in chaos around the world,” he added.
