SENECA, SOUTH CAROLINA: Senator Lindsey Graham compared Israel's war on Gaza to America's decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II while urging to supply more bombs to the Jewish state to end the war, reported NBC News.

"When we were faced with destruction as a nation after Pearl Harbor, fighting the Germans and the Japanese, we decided to end the war by the bombing [of] Hiroshima [and] Nagasaki with nuclear weapons," the Republican lawmaker from South Carolina said in an interview on NBC's 'Meet the Press' on Sunday, May 12.

"That was the right decision," he argued, adding, "Give Israel the bombs they need to end the war. They can't afford to lose."

Graham's shocking suggestion came while criticizing President Joe Biden's threat to halt more weapons shipment to Israel if they defy the administration's warning against a full-scale invasion of Rafah.

The Biden administration last week withheld a supply of powerful 2000-pound bombs in an attempt to prevent its ally's offensive plan on the region, which shelters more than a million Palestinians who fled the war.

Moderator Kristen Welker questioned Graham's criticism of Biden's threat to stop arms supply to Israel, highlighting that President Ronald Reagan also halted weapons to Israel during its conflict in Lebanon in the 1980s.

The GOP congressman doubled down on his defense of the US nuking the Japanese cities to substantiate his position on Israel and Gaza.

"Why is it OK for America to drop two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end their existential threat war? Why was it OK for us to do that? I thought it was OK," he said. "So, Israel, do whatever you have to do to survive as a Jewish state. Whatever you have to do."

Graham dismissed Welker's pushback after she pointed out the technological development since World War II. He argued the military officials who claim about such technological change are "full of crap."

Graham's support to Israel to go to any extent to win the war came shortly after Secretary of State Antony Blinken appeared on 'Meet the Press,' reiterating the Biden administration's decision not to support the military operation in Rafah.

Besides backing Israel, Graham also claimed Hamas was responsible for the massive civilian casualties because they used the civilians as "human shields." He emphasized that no one should "reward this behavior."

In March, another GOP lawmaker, Tim Walberg, also suggested the use of nuclear weapons in Gaza to help Israel eradicate Hamas.

More than 35,000 Palestinians have been killed since the Israel-Hamas war broke out on October 7, 2023.
