WASHINGTON, DC: Former presidential candidate Nikki Haley has officially declared her support for a candidate in the November 2024 election after months of speculation about her stance.

On Wednesday, May 22, Haley formally endorsed the presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump announcing her intention to vote for him in the upcoming November election.

What did Nikki Haley say?

According to New York Post, Nikki Haley, after withdrawing from the 2024 race post-Super Tuesday, spoke at the Hudson Institute, where she has accepted a position. “I will be voting for Trump. Having said that, I stand behind what I said in my suspension speech.”

“Trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continue to support me, and not assume that they’re just going to be with him — and I genuinely hope he does that,” she added.

The ex-UN ambassador echoed a similar sentiment in her suspension speech, urging Trump to appeal to her voter base, yet she did not disclose her voting preference at that moment.

After her initial address at the Hudson Institute on Wednesday, she articulated her decision to vote for Trump, citing the need for a president who would fortify the border, stand with American allies, cut the national debt, and uphold "capitalism and freedom."

“Trump has not been perfect on these policies. I have made that clear many, many times,” Haley remarked. “But Biden has been a catastrophe.”

“When he leaves the teleprompter, he is unhinged,” Haley said of Trump in an interview on the 'Hugh Hewitt Show.'

“And everybody can say whatever they want to say, in terms of, ‘Oh, he was a great president,’” she further added.

But, she continued, “an unhinged president is an unsafe president. And if you’ll go talk about those men and women who served us, you don’t deserve to be president,” The Hill reported.

Trump officials highlighted polls suggesting Haley would win against Biden

Despite withdrawing from the race, Haley has maintained double-digit support in primary elections, securing close to 22% of the vote in Indiana and more than 16% in Pennsylvania.

The Trump team has not publicly reached out to Haley's voters, despite these figures. Instead, Trump campaign officials have highlighted polls indicating the former president would win against President Biden.

A representative for the Republican National Committee stated in March that they were not particularly concerned about regaining the support of Haley's voters.

“The share … that are Republicans, we have no doubt that we’re going to get them back because they’re facing a choice between, you know, continue to slide downhill from an economic standpoint, from a security standpoint, from a border security standpoint, and more of the same, so an actual fundamental change,” the staffer said at the time.

“So we’re not really worried about that. Our door’s always open. Always has been.”

Internet criticized Haley's 'birdbrain'

After Haley's statement about voting for Trump went viral on internet, users started sharing their reactions. One wrote criticizing Haley, "Spineless hypocrite!"

Another user added, "No thanks birdbrain we dont need your fake vote."

Third commentator further claimed, "But the PEOPLE will NEVER VOTE FOR @NikkiHaley!!"

Some users even felt that Haley is supporting Trump to get a position. A user remarked, "She is looking for another ambassadors position."

Other person added, "Anything to be a VP candidate, no chance."
