NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: By the time 'The Five' aired on Fox News on Monday, April 8, Greg Gutfeld was already fed up with the "total eclipse mania."

In a monologue that elicited chuckles from fellow panelists Jesse Watters and Dana Perino, Gutfeld likened the media frenzy surrounding the eclipse to the events of the January 6 Capitol Hill insurrection.

Admitting that he didn't bother engaging with eclipse enthusiasts as the celestial event unfolded, the Fox News host quipped, "In my opinion, this is worse than January 6."

Greg Gutfeld says he prefers earthquakes over eclipses

Gutfeld went on to criticize how Fox News had covered the eclipse, finding it offensive.

The TV host's tirade against the eclipse primarily revolved around mocking what he perceived as "woke" talking points related to ableism, accessibility, racism, and preferred pronouns.

His delivery was laced with faux disgust, heightening the comedic effect as he exaggerated what he viewed as liberals' concerns.

He remarked, "What about the people who can’t see it? And I’m not just talking about blind people — though I am, in a way."

Gutfeld continued, "But the millions suffering from climate insecurity, what about them? The people suffering from gender confusion. It’s systemic astronomical racism. Forget about the word 'black holes'. There are celestial nicknames that are still being used like 'Siamese twin galaxies' and 'Eskimo nebulas' — this is offensive! And I haven’t even touched on the equity problem here."

The Fox News host declared that he "boycotted the eclipse," noting, "Some people could go on a roof, while others had to stay on the street. I find that disgusting."

Pausing for a moment, he pondered aloud why "everybody" seemed to "hate" the "stupid" eclipse, before concluding that eclipses are the antithesis of earthquakes—in a negative sense.

Gutfeld stated, "You cannot help but be disappointed by an eclipse with every anchor acting like they’re having a massive out-of-body experience. But an earthquake never disappoints you because it just shows up. It shows up and you’re like, 'Holy c**p, there’s an earthquake!'"

He added, "So what is this moral for you? The moral is: as a human being, don’t be an eclipse, be an earthquake. Don’t build yourself up over and over and over again, because you’ll just disappoint. Instead, you show up and you surprise and you impress people. That’s the lesson you learn from an eclipse."

Netizens laud Greg Gutfeld's hilarious eclipse commentary

'The Five' viewers couldn't help but praise Gutfeld's sarcastic commentary surrounding the solar eclipse.

One commented, "Greg ripping the glasses apart is priceless, Still laughing," and another said, "Greg you are so funny!! I loved your take on this. How about....We all Live in a Yellow Submarine??!"

"Gutfeld is a genius," declared a person, while one more viewer noted, "Boy that Greg is a real fun guy I can tell. Barrel of laughs."

An individual chimed in, "Gutfeld, you are the best so funny!" Someone else simply said, "I love this guy lol."
