WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump appeared to nod off during his luncheon on Monday, January 20— just hours after taking the oath of office for the second time.

This is the second time Trump appeared to fall asleep during a significant event. He was earlier caught dozing off during the Republican National Convention in 2024, per OK! Magazine.

An eagle-eyed social media user shared snippets of Trump falling asleep during the luncheon event on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: "Low Engergy Donald Trump falls asleep Several Times during the Luncheon.. Melania looks concerned.."

Trump's second inauguration was a glamourous affair, including a traditional luncheon where guests dined with the new POTUS.

Trump was, however, caught dozing off during the luncheon. The 78-year-old POTUS has a history of napping.

Journalist Maggie Haberman, who was in court to cover the hush money trial hearings, claimed that Trump was observed dozing off in court for the third time in April 2024.

Trump became defensive at the time, saying he was very much present. "Contrary to the FAKE NEWS MEDIA, I don’t fall asleep during the Crooked D.A.’s Witch Hunt, especially not today."

"I simply close my beautiful blue eyes, sometimes, listen intensely, and take it ALL in!!!" Trump shared on Truth Social.

Trump stated in October 2024 that he was mentally all there. He declared at the time, "I'm not 80, and I'm not that close to 80."

The New York Times' Haberman previously gave a startling report from the Manhattan courthouse as the first criminal trial of a former US president got underway.

She claimed that Trump "appeared to nod off a few times," with his mouth "going slack and his head drooping onto his chest," per CNN.

"He looked like he was nodding off and at one point in a pretty true tell that he was falling asleep, his head nodded down and then he sort of jolted back up at one point," Susanne Craig of The New York Times said of Trump on MSNBC.

However, the Trump campaign eventually denied that the then-former president slept off during the hearing, which was an obvious concern for a candidate who made the nickname "Sleepy Joe" a major point of attack against then-president Joe Biden.

Later, a Trump campaign spokeswoman emphasized, "This is 100% Fake News coming from ‘journalists’ who weren’t even in the court room." The campaign said that the mid-trial snooze never occurred.

Donald Trump apparently fell asleep during 2024 Michigan event

The then-former president Donald Trump appeared to nod off again at a campaign rally in Oakland County, Michigan, in 2024.

This came after a series of canceled interviews, which an advisor ascribed to his "exhausted" mood, and prompted further criticism from the then-vice president Kamala Harris' campaign, per Forbes.

In the run-up to the election, all eyes were on Trump's mental state. The real estate tycoon, who always maintained that he cleared an unidentified cognitive test and refused to reveal his medical report, came under fire following his town hall in October, where he mainly stood and swayed to music for the final half hour.

During a speech at the time, Harris suggested that Trump was "too weak and unstable to lead America" and criticized him for not revealing his medical report.

As Harris joined the presidential race in August, Trump began to increase the number of his campaign events, a tactic that an unidentified aide called "Trump on steroids".
