Marjorie Taylor Greene says Trump officials backing Iran War, Epstein cover-up won't win in 2028
WASHINGTON, DC: Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) issued a sharp warning to potential 2028 Republican presidential contenders, arguing that members of President Donald Trump's cabinet who support the administration's handling of the Iran conflict and the Epstein files would struggle to win voters' trust in a future White House campaign.
However, Greene did not mention Secretary of State Marco Rubio or Vice President JD Vance by name, but her comments came as both are increasingly discussed as possible Republican presidential candidates. Her remarks also followed a conservative straw poll in which Rubio finished first, and Vance placed second among potential 2028 GOP contenders.

Greene argued that administration officials who defended the Iran conflict, remained silent about it, or supported the administration's handling of the Epstein files would face skepticism from Republican voters if they seek the presidency.
"Any member of the Trump admin that wants to run for POTUS in 28 who has defended Trump’s war in Iran and not spoken out against it publicly, has stood with the admin on the coverup of the Epstein files, will not be trusted," Greene wrote.

She further argued that the Epstein files remain a major unresolved issue for voters that the Republican cabinet has failed to fully address. "The Epstein files are still not fully released, which has been one of the biggest issues the American people demanded in recent history," she said.
Greene argued that Americans would not trust future campaign promises from administration officials who, she said, had failed to deliver on those issues while already serving in government. "You won’t get to walk out on 2028 presidential stages with your anti-neocon tough talk and try to tell us this time will be different," she wrote.
Greene added, "You are in power right now. End the war and bring our beloved troops home immediately." She also called for the release of the Epstein files and greater focus on lowering inflation and energy costs.
Comments come after Marco Rubio tops conservative straw poll
Greene's post comes as speculation over the Republican Party's 2028 presidential field continues to grow, despite President Trump not endorsing a successor. Secretary of State Marco Rubio secured the top spot in a straw poll conducted among more than 500 attendees at the Western Conservative Summit in Colorado, receiving 57 percent support.
Vice President JD Vance finished second with 21 per cent, while former Vice President Mike Pence, Rep Thomas Massie (R-Ky) and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis rounded out the top five.
Rubio has previously said he would defer to Vance if the vice president chooses to seek the Republican nomination. Vance, meanwhile, has said he expects to discuss a potential presidential campaign with his family after the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump has previously weighed in on the party's future leadership, suggesting that a Vance-Rubio ticket would be "a great team," adding, "I don't know how you beat them if they're together."
