DALTON, GEORGIA: In a statement released on Friday, November 21, Marjorie Taylor Greene announced that she will resign from Congress effective January 5, 2026.

She says her decision comes after a fallout with President Donald Trump, who reacted to the news by calling it "great for the country."

Marjorie Taylor Greene's resignation

Highlighting her struggle against the party establishment, Marjorie Taylor Greene said, “I am cast aside by MAGA Inc and replaced by Neocons, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Military Industrial War Complex, foreign leaders, and the elite donor class that can't even relate to real Americans."

The congresswoman also added that she "did not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms."

"I refuse to be a 'battered wife' hoping it all goes away and gets better," Greene stressed.

She also stated that “loyalty should be a two-way street,” and added that it was “unfair and wrong” for Trump to turn on her for disagreeing with him.

Greene insisted that her "self-worth is not defined by a man, but instead by God."

Greene was once one of Trump’s staunchest defenders in Congress.

Her persistent calls to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein led to a bitter public falling out with Trump, who has since labeled her a “traitor.”

Reactions pour in from allies and critics

Rep Thomas Massie, another Republican who has clashed with Donald Trump over policy disagreements, voiced his support for Marjorie Taylor Greene on social media on Friday night. "I’m very sad for our country but so happy for my friend Marjorie. I’ll miss her tremendously," he wrote.

In agreement with Massie, John Dennis, Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus, wrote, "A 'huge loss' per Thomas Massie. I agree with Thomas."

Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett also took to X to express her support for Marjorie Taylor Greene, and wrote, "I’m going to be honest… I didn’t see this coming but the threats that come with being on the opposite side of Trump ARE REAL!"

"People need to wake up! Trump only knows how to use people up & then cast them aside when he’s done… he did it to his VP, he’s done it to those that wanted the Epstein files, he did it to those that believed he cared about their struggles, & now he’s doing it to one of his most loyal followers, MTG," she added.

In a statement posted to X, Georgia GOP Chairman Josh McKoon called Greene a "tireless fighter," and thanked her for her "fierce and unwavering service to the people of Northwest Georgia." He stressed that her "legacy as a bold voice for the grassroots will endure."

However, some users expressed approval of her resignation.

Randy Fine, a Congressman from Florida, commented on the resignation, saying, “Good riddance.”

Tricia Flanagan, who previously ran for the House to represent a New Jersey district, voiced the same opinion, writing, "We don’t need any more victims, traitors or flip-floppers."

Laura Loomer, a long-time critic of Greene, said, "She wants the Democrats to win." The far-right activist also claimed that Greene resigned as she is deliberately trying to "make it so that Republicans are down a vote to screw Trump over ahead of 2026."
