Martha Stewart seemingly takes swipe at Meghan Markle’s cooking show

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Martha Stewart is sharing her thoughts on Meghan Markle’s career choices, particularly her move into the cooking and lifestyle space.

The lifestyle mogul discussed her views in the new issue of People, released on Wednesday, August 5, where she reflected on Markle’s transition from actress to royal figure and later into a homemaking personality.

During her conversation with the publication, Stewart revealed that she does not like “cocktail parties.” However, she recently “had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California.”

“And she had just gotten back from the palace. I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it,” the 85-year-old writer shared.

Stewart was then asked about her thoughts on the Duchess of Sussex “stepping into your space with her own cooking show.”

The businesswoman did not hesitate as she added, “If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow,” before asserting, “So go from there.”

Meghan Markle expanded lifestyle ventures after royal exit

Markle was an actress before she became a princess by marrying Prince Harry in May 2018.

Two years later, in 2020, the pair decided to leave the UK royal family to start a new life in the US, pursuing multiple projects both individually and together.

Markle, who is the mother of two children, launched her lifestyle, cooking and hosting brand, As Ever. The former senior royal member also started the ‘With Love, Meghan’ series on Netflix.

In July last year, Stewart had shared her thoughts on Markle’s lifestyle ventures.

“Meghan I don’t really know very well, and I hope she knows what she’s talking about. Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important,” she added.

The cookbook author, however, showed her support for actress-turned-health and wellness entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow, who founded Goop.

“Gwyneth has been very successful; she created quite an interesting body of businesses. She won an Oscar, for heaven’s sake, as an actress! She’s pretty powerful,” Stewart reportedly said.

Netflix will not release ‘With Love, Meghan’ season 3

Meanwhile, a few months back, it was reported that ‘With Love, Meghan’ would not return for a third season on Netflix after two seasons.

“Meghan’s passion for elevating everyday moments in beautiful yet simple ways inspired the creation of the As Ever brand, and we are glad to have played a role in bringing that vision to life,” a Netflix spokesperson reportedly said.

An As Ever spokesperson also added that the company “is grateful for Netflix’s partnership through launch and our first year. We have experienced meaningful and rapid growth and As Ever is now ready to stand on its own. We have an exciting year ahead and can’t wait to share more.”
