Meghan Markle shares dance video from 45th birthday celebration filmed by Prince Harry

MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle offered fans a glimpse into her 45th birthday celebrations by sharing a series of candid moments at home with Prince Harry, including dancing in the kitchen and celebrating with their dogs through a series of Instagram Stories.

The birthday updates also came after a busy summer for Meghan and her family, which included international travel, royal reunions, promoting the documentary 'Cookie Queens,' and making several public appearances together. 

Meghan Markle celebrates 45th birthday at home

Meghan celebrated turning 45 on Tuesday, August 4, by posting a series of Instagram Stories, beginning with a black-and-white photo of herself jumping into a pool while holding balloons. She captioned the image, “Thank you for the birthday love.”

She then shared a video of herself dancing in the kitchen while the “Happy Birthday” song played and food sizzled on the stove. In the background, Prince Harry could be heard joking, “Oh, dear,” as she laughed.

She wore a white T-shirt reading “It’s Giving Mrs,” paired with white lounge pants and a colorful birthday headband.

Another clip showed the couple trying to get their two dogs, black lab Pula and beagle Mia, to wear tiny birthday party hats while Harry calmly encouraged them to sit and stay for a photo.

Meghan shares her birthday with Harry’s late great-grandmother, Queen Mother Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who was born on August 4, 1900, and lived to be 101.

Harry wrote in his 2023 memoir 'Spare' that King Charles only realized Meghan shared the Queen Mother's birthday months after the couple’s May 2018 wedding during a visit to the Castle of Mey in Scotland.

“The bond between Meg and Pa, always strong, grew even stronger during that weekend,” he wrote, recalling how his father reacted after learning of the connection, adding, “‘Amazing,’ Pa said with a smile.” 

Meghan typically celebrates her birthday privately with Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Last year, the couple marked her 44th birthday with dinner at Beverly Hills restaurant Funke, which she later described as one of the “top five meals of my life.”

Meghan Markle balances family and work

The birthday celebration followed an eventful summer for Meghan and Prince Harry. Last month, they traveled to Portugal with their children, where a source said the destination has become a favorite retreat because “Archie and Lilibet can simply be kids,” enjoying quiet beach days and family time.

On July 10, they reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England. It marked only Harry’s third meeting with his father since the King's 2024 cancer diagnosis and the monarch’s first visit with his grandchildren in four years.

Royal author Catherine Mayer said the reunion highlighted that, despite the monarchy’s public role, “at its heart it is just a family” that has experienced significant upheaval.

After returning to the United States, Meghan focused on promoting 'Cookie Queens,' the documentary she and Prince Harry co-executive produced about the Girl Scouts’ cookie-selling season.

At a Los Angeles screening, she told the audience that they had not yet watched the film but already loved “all the cookies that we’ve had throughout this process.”

Last month, Meghan also appeared as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia. During the July 26 episode, Prince Harry surprised her with a video call while she was tasting contestants’ dishes.

She introduced him to the judges and joked about a spicy hot sauce, saying, “I think it might be too much for you.” He replied, “Well, go and enjoy it. I’m very sorry to disturb you. All is well here. I’ll see you later.”
