WASHINGTON, DC: King Charles III sent President Donald Trump a personal message marking the United States' 250th Independence Day, celebrating what he described as the "extraordinary evolution" of the US-UK relationship and expressing confidence that the two nations would continue standing together for generations to come.
Released by Buckingham Palace on Saturday, July 4, the King's letter congratulated Trump and the American people while reflecting on how Britain and the United States transformed centuries of conflict into one of the world's closest strategic partnerships.
The message comes just months after Charles and Queen Camilla visited the United States, where the monarch highlighted the importance of the transatlantic alliance during meetings with American leaders.
Royal message celebrates historic milestone
Addressing Trump directly as "Dear Mr President," King Charles and Queen Camilla extended their "warmest congratulations" on America's semiquincentennial, calling it a historic occasion for Americans to celebrate the nation's achievements since 1776.
"We were proud, and honoured, to be able to celebrate this special anniversary during our visit to the United States in April," Charles wrote.
He said the anniversary offered an opportunity to reflect on the country's remarkable journey while recognizing the accomplishments that shaped modern America over the past two and a half centuries.
Alliance praised across key sectors
The monarch described the US-UK partnership as one of the closest and most productive alliances in the world, emphasizing cooperation across defense, security, trade, investment, scientific research, education, culture, and the arts.
"The story of the relationship between our two nations is one of extraordinary evolution, from overcoming conflict to forging one of the closest and most productive alliances the world has seen," Charles wrote.
He added that the two countries continue to face global challenges together while drawing strength from deep historical ties rooted in liberty, the rule of law and mutual trust.
Looking toward the next 250 years
Charles concluded by looking beyond the anniversary, saying he had "no doubt" Britain and the United States would continue defending their shared values in the decades ahead.
He also highlighted a shared responsibility to protect the natural world, arguing that environmental stewardship remains important for both prosperity and national security.
"The connection between our peoples is one that I trust will only grow stronger with time," the King wrote, ending the letter with best wishes to Trump and the American people as the United States begins its next 250 years.
