WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Maxine Waters urged the use of the 25th Amendment against President Donald Trump.

She said he poses a danger to the country after removing Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors.

Maxine Waters' remarks came during a Friday panel on MSNBC, where she argued that Donald Trump’s decision could destabilize the economy and serve his personal interests.

"It is time to call for Article [Amendment] 25 of the Constitution of the United States of America to determine his unfitness, to determine that something’s wrong with this president," Waters said during her appearance on MSNBC's 'The Weeknight'.

She added, "I would suggest that we move very aggressively to talk about the danger to this country and to our democracy and not play around with this, because this is absolutely one of the most destructive things that this president could do."

Trump removed Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook on Monday, accusing her of misrepresenting mortgage information.

Waters argued that the move could shake markets. "This stands to basically upend the entire economy."

"This stands to really deal with what is going to happen on Wall Street, what’s going to happen with interest rates, what’s going to happen with the president of the United States being able to make decisions that he will personally benefit from," Waters said.

Symone Sanders-Townsend and Debbie Wasserman Schultz react on 25th Amendment call

MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend said Maxine Waters’ words carried weight.

"I think it’s jarring to hear Congresswoman Waters say it’s time for the 25th Amendment. But, I mean, presidents have been impeached for much less," Sanders said.

Rep Debbie Wasserman Schultz pointed out that Trump’s actions targeted the Federal Reserve beyond Cook.

"Donald Trump’s real preference is to fire Jerome Powell. But he knows that that’s a bridge too far," Schultz said.

"So what he’s doing instead is, he’s taking a monkey wrench, and he’s going to go in and try to meddle with the component parts of the Federal Reserve by trying to fire Lisa Cook on something that was maintained in the court case today, that she’s not even being investigated for," Wasserman Schultz said.

Schultz further dismissed the allegations against Cook. "By the way, the so-called fraud that she is being accused of, she didn’t even get preferred interest rates on any of the mortgages that she obtained, which demonstrates that she didn’t break the law. It’s preposterous," Schultz said.

Internet says Maxine Waters should ‘focus on her district’ amid 25th Amendment push

Many on social media pushed back on Maxine Waters’ call, suggesting she should focus on her district.

"Maxine Waters needs to focus on her district. She’s been in congress for decades and done nothing!" wrote one user on X.

Another said, "Dems need to become a more serious party and start winning elections not engaging in this nonsense."

"As long as the President is conscious and you have a complicit Congress, the 25th Amendment is utterly useless," a user added.

One more said, "On what grounds? Did she ask for the 25th for Biden when he would disappear for weeks at a time?" Another wrote simply, "She needs to be removed."
