‘Ultimate betrayal’: Meghan Markle’s brother Thomas Markle Jr bashed for mocking her in ‘grotesque’ video
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr has been condemned for hurling insults and targeting the Duchess of Sussex in YouTube videos. He previously claimed that the Sussexes have to sincerely apologize to Meghan's father, Thomas Markle to mend the relationship.
Thomas Markle Jr, 57, recently came under fire from some high-ranking officials as they called it “ultimate betrayal” after he appeared to mock his estranged half-sister in a grotesque satire, per Daily Mail.
Thomas Markle Jr mocks Meghan Markle
In a series of insulting clips on his YouTube channel, Thomas Markle dressed up by stuffing a cushion inside his jumper and calling him ‘Me-gain’, referring to the disparaging nickname attributed to the Duchess by online trolls.
He also used a wig and a tiara to emulate the ‘Suits’ star while attempting to mock her. It has been reported that the American actress has not spoken to her half-brother in more than a decade.
Markle Jr started his own YouTube channel quite a while ago, and through his page, he has previously uploaded rants and videos against the royal family along with videos dissing Meghan.
In several videos, he has taken up the ‘Me-gain’ persona and dressed up disparagingly to mock the Duchess. In the latest video, posted last Wednesday, April 10, Markle Jr set off another series of rants against the estranged royal.
Appearing to address the Duchess while speaking to the camera, he said, “It's not just your freedom of speech, Meghan, it's everybody's freedom of speech.”
He further continued to mock, “So if you don't like it, don't watch, right? I'm gonna be riding those coat-tails, baby - oh, yeah, if it wasn't for Meghan Markle I don't know what I'd be doing.”
Per Sunday Mirror, Markle has also suggested bringing out his own range of merchandise including glasses, mugs, and T-shirts.
Following the jeering jibes at the Duchess, Markle Jr was scorned by the former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond who slammed the video as “grotesque” and criticized him for committing the “ultimate betrayal.”
The veteran journalist responded to the video by saying, “To have your own flesh and blood lead the assault must feel like the ultimate betrayal for Meghan.”
An ex-government minister has also lashed out at the content creator and called for strict actions from the social media channels.
Damian Collins, a Conservative MP and former tech and digital economy minister, said, “The major social media companies must do more to combat harmful content on their platforms, including campaigns of harassment and intimidation.”
Collins continued, “They have created systems that have not only allowed conspiracy theories to thrive, but are actively promoted by the recommendation systems designed by these big tech companies.”
Thomas Markle Jr previously wrote to Prince Harry about Meghan Markle
This is, however, not the first time that the Duchess’ estranged brother has made disparaging comments against the mother-of-two.
Before the Sussexes high-profile marriage at Windsor Castle in May 2018, Thomas Markle Jr wrote a letter to Prince Harry saying it was not “too late” to cancel the wedding while describing Meghan as “obviously not the right woman for you.”
Terming his sister as a “jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage,” he wrote to Harry, “As more time passes to your royal wedding, it became very clear that this is the biggest mistake in royal wedding history.”
He further claimed, “Meghan Markle is obviously not the right woman for you. I'm confused why you don't see the real Meghan that the whole world now sees.”
