Megyn Kelly names the 'meanest' celebrities she has ever met
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Megyn Kelly has publicly identified several well-known celebrities as the “meanest” people she has encountered in her career, sharing specific anecdotes and names in a recent interview.
Megyn Kelly said that when asked to name the most unpleasant stars she has met, several figures came to mind instantly based on personal interactions she described as “rude, hostile or ungenerous”.
Kelly offered the comments as part of a conversation reflecting on her decades in journalism and entertainment, detailing moments that left memorable negative impressions and contrasting them with more positive encounters.
Kelly recounts celebrity encounters she found unkind
In the interview with The Daily Mail, Kelly said the first name that popped into her head when describing “mean” celebrity interactions was Jane Fonda.
She recalled a 2017 interview in which she asked Fonda about cosmetic surgery, a topic Fonda had publicly discussed before and said Fonda reacted angrily and punitively, making the exchange deeply uncomfortable.
Kelly also named Bruce Willis, saying he was “so ungiving” and “so ungenerous” during an interview on Fox News in 2006, noting that his demeanour suggested he did not want to be there.
When asked about Al Roker, Kelly did not detail a specific incident but made it clear she had not found him warm in their interactions, using a tongue-in-cheek comparison to convey his awkwardness in social settings.
Kelly also criticized Ellen DeGeneres, citing accounts from a close family member who worked as a producer on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'.
She said that employees were told to avert their eyes when encountering DeGeneres in hallways, a behavior Kelly described as unlike anything she had heard before, and one she found striking enough to mention.
Megyn Kelly highlights stars she found 'pleasant or sincere'
Not all the names Kelly mentioned were negative. She described comedian Russell Brand as “warm,” saying he was friendly and engaging in their encounter.
Kathie Lee Gifford was called “nice,” and Jada Pinkett Smith was described as “so sweet, so sincere, so genuine”.
Kelly’s comments about stars she found “mean” and those she found kind came up in the context of her own reflections on working in high-pressure environments and the wide range of personalities one can encounter over a long career.
Representatives for the individuals Kelly named have not publicly responded to her remarks.
