NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly insisted that the bar for Joe Biden was set extremely low for his first presidential debate against former President Donald Trump on the Monday, June 24 episode of her SiriusXM podcast, 'The Megyn Kelly Show.'

The presumptive Democratic and Republican nominees are scheduled to go up against each other on Thursday, June 27, in a closely watched debate hosted by CNN.

Megyn Kelly's take on the first presidential debate

"I don’t think this is a mistake by Republicans, but just given reality, the stakes could not be lower for a Joe Biden performance," Kelly stated on her show on Monday, during a conversation with fellow conservative commentator Victor David Hanson.

"For him to emerge victorious, he’s just going to have to not… die during the 90 minutes."

She implied that it might have been a mistake on the part of the Trump campaign to incessantly attack Biden for his age, which in turn provided him with the advantage of very low expectations. Notably, Trump and Biden are the oldest rival pair in history to run for the White House, at ages 78 and 81, respectively.

“Trump, wisely, is finally not playing down expectations for Joe Biden, finally trying to hedge a little on what he might be dealing with,” said Kelly.

With Trump's polling numbers dropping after his conviction in the New York hush money trial, the former Fox News host highlighted the importance of the debate and shared,

"There has been some erosion for Trump with independents in the wake of that conviction. And you can see the argument by the Dems that everything is going to plan. That Joe Biden’s not the ideal choice, but he beat Trump once before, he’ll beat him again by running on Trump’s personality as opposed to his (Biden’s) own accomplishments.”

Biden may focus on irritating Trump, she added, explaining, "Just keep poking him because Trump’s goal is to try to maintain some sense of dignity and strength, but not pettiness. And if Joe Biden just keeps needling him, Trump has some sort of a nasty meltdown that causes interrupting Trump to come back, and the numbers with women start falling, etc.”

Victor David Hanson's views on the upcoming debate

Hanson shared in own prediction about the incumbent's approach to the debate, telling Kelly, “I think he’ll (Biden) come out, he’ll want to show everybody he’s muscular. He’ll have to stand, and he will yell in that kind of mean grimace.”

“If Trump can just keep calm and just talk about what the Biden record is versus what his record was and what his plan will be, I think he’ll do fine," he expressed.

Biden's team attempted to get the rules of the debate slanted in his favor, argued Hanson, but claimed that they might end up helping his opponent.

"Cutting the mic, I think, helps Trump in a weird way, so that he can’t interject,” he said, adding that the fact that the two had to stay standing throughout the debate could also end up aiding Trump at last.

While the GOP has slammed one of the moderators, Jake Tapper, for being overtly critical of Trump, Hanson assured on Monday, "I think actually, he’ll be on his best behavior, or if he is not, people will notice it, and empathize with Trump."
