Megyn Kelly slams Michelle Obama’s new book ‘The Look,’ calls her fashion sense ‘terrible’
WASHINGTON, DC: Megyn Kelly isn’t holding back when it comes to Michelle Obama’s coffee table book, 'The Look.' Speaking on 'The Megyn Kelly Show' on Tuesday, October 28, Kelly took direct aim at the former First Lady’s fashion sense, describing it as “terrible” and saying there’s “nothing” to admire.

Kelly joined the hosts of ‘Ruthless’ — Josh Holmes, Michael Duncan, John Ashbrook, and Comfortably Smug — to discuss Michelle Obama’s book ‘The Look.’ The conversation quickly turned into a takedown of Michelle’s fashion. Kelly questioned the need for such a book, calling it confusing and unnecessary.
“If you take one look at Michelle Obama on her actual podcast, she has the fashion sense of this pen. Honestly, there’s nothing there,” Kelly said. She added that while Obama had “a couple of moments” as First Lady, most of her looks fell flat. “She has a terrible sense of fashion. Most of the time, she looks like she’s wearing burlap,” Kelly remarked.

Kelly also called out what she saw as hypocrisy in Obama’s recent comments about fame. “Just ten days ago, she was complaining about how famous she is, saying she hates going into restaurants because everyone stares at her,” Kelly said. “So what does she do? Launches a podcast, a YouTube show, and now a book all about her ‘look.’ Because she hates fame and apparently money too.”
Despite her blunt criticism, Kelly did give some credit to the stylist who dressed Obama for the book cover, acknowledging the look was “well put together.”
Michelle Obama says her book ‘The Look’ reclaims her story through fashion
In June 2025, Michelle Obama announced ‘The Look’ on social media, describing it as a personal project that reclaims the narrative around her style during her years in the White House. She explained that the constant scrutiny of her appearance pushed her to tell the story in her own words.
“During our family’s time in the White House, the way I looked was constantly being dissected — what I wore, how my hair was styled,” Obama wrote. “For a while now, I’ve been wanting to reclaim more of that story, to share it in my own way. I’m thankful to be at a stage in life where I feel comfortable expressing myself freely, wearing what I love, and doing what feels true to me.”
The book features over 200 photographs, offering a visual journey through Obama’s evolving sense of style. It showcases how her fashion choices reflect her growth, confidence, and individuality over the years.
