Mel Gibson says Kamala Harris ‘has the IQ of a fence post’ as he expresses his support for Trump

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mel Gibson wasn't shy about letting us know what he really thinks about Vice President Kamala Harris.

When asked about the upcoming election on Thursday, October 24, the Hollywood veteran dished out some choice words that were sure to grab headlines. "IQ of a fence post" is how he described Harris—and it's safe to say he meant every word.

Mel Gibson made the comments at Los Angeles International Airport when a TMZ photographer caught up with the 68-year-old 'Mad Max' star. The pap tossed a loaded question at him: What’s his take on the 2024 election? Gibson responded, “Whoa, that’s a big question.”

“I don’t think it’s going to surprise anyone who I’ll vote for,” he teased as the paparazzo trailed him through LAX.

In a video shared by the outlet, Gibson didn't beat around the bush about his support for former president Donald Trump. Trying to read between the lines, the cameraman ventured a guess: “I’m gonna guess Trump. Is that a bad guess?”

Gibson wasn’t coy in his response. “I think that’s a pretty good guess,” he confirmed.

“I know what it’ll be like if we let her in and that ain’t good,” he continued. “Miserable track record – appalling track record. No policies to speak of. And she’s got the IQ of a fence post,” he added.

Now, Donald Trump has a bit of a track record himself when it comes to slamming Kamala Harris—calling her everything from “low-IQ” to “mentally impaired.” On Wednesday, Trump went after Harris saying she “gave an answer that was from a loony bin” during a CBS interview. And he doubled down at a rally in Georgia: “She’s not a smart person. She’s a low IQ individual.”

But back to Gibson, because it wasn’t always this way. The 'Get The Gringo' star hasn’t been one of those outspoken Trump loyalists from the start.

He kept quiet during the 2016 and 2020 elections, and it’s still a mystery whether he had beef with Trump back then or if he just preferred to stay out of the frying pan like many of Hollywood’s more discreet conservative voices.

Still, fans of the UFC octagon might remember a 2021 fight card where Gibson was caught on camera giving Trump a salute.

Earlier this year, the former president himself posted about the actor on Truth Social — sharing a meme featuring a clean-cut Mel alongside his rugged 'Braveheart' look. The meme read “Me voting for Trump” in 2016 and 2024, with Trump adding: “Either way, Mel Gibson is GREAT!”

That said, Harris has also been pretty vocal about her feelings toward Trump, calling him “increasingly unhinged and unstable.” In a CNN town hall earlier this week, she labeled Trump a “fascist."

Andrew Garfield says Mel Gibson has a 'compassionate heart'

Mel Gibson's harsh words for Kamala Harris come on the heels of some surprising support from another Hollywood A-lister: Andrew Garfield. The 'Amazing Spider-Man' star worked with Gibson on the 2016 war drama 'Hacksaw Ridge' and recently gave him a shoutout in an interview with People.

Garfield, 41, got real about his time with Gibson. “The lesson I took away from working with him is that people deserve second chances, third chances, fourth chances. That none of us are infallible," he said.

It’s a bold stance, especially considering Garfield’s Jewish heritage and Gibson's infamous antisemitic comments from his 2006 DUI arrest which nearly wrecked his career. But according to Garfield, Gibson has done “a lot of beautiful healing” since.

“He’s done a lot of beautiful healing with himself…he’s an amazing filmmaker, and I think he deserves to make films. He deserves to tell stories because he has a very, very big, compassionate heart," Garfield added, as quoted by Deadline.
