NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former first lady Melania Trump has reportedly made a bombshell declaration of standing by abortion rights for women in her upcoming memoir titled 'Melania' on Wednesday, October 2.

The Guardian received a copy of her tell-all book, which will be published a month ahead of the 2024 general election. The publication reported that Melania is set in her stance against the GOP on abortion rights as her husband and the party's presidential nominee Donald Trump runs on an anti-abortion platform.

Reproductive rights have notably weakened under Trump and the GOP, especially with three justices installed by him in the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v Wade in 2022. Trump's running mate JD Vance has also indicated that he would support a national abortion ban if the GOP wins the White House in 2024.

Melania Trump supports women's autonomy over their own body

Melania Trump, who has rarely expressed political views in public, passionately supported the right of women to control their own bodies in her upcoming book, The Guardian stated in their report.

"It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” read an excerpt from the memoir.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes," it continued.

"Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life,” Melania wrote.

Melania Trump's argument in support of reproductive and abortion rights

Melania Trump produced a well crafted argument in support of reproductive rights in her memoir, stating, "I have always believed it is critical for people to take care of themselves first. It’s a very straightforward concept; in fact, we are all born with a set of fundamental rights, including the right to enjoy our lives. We are all entitled to maintain a gratifying and dignified existence. This common-sense approach applies to a woman’s natural right to make decisions about her own body and health.”

The former model said that her beliefs on abortion rights are non-negotiable, as they come from “a core set of principles," which include “individual liberty” and “personal freedom.”

She detailed “legitimate reasons for a woman to choose to have an abortion” in her book, including danger to the life of the mother, r**e or incest, often exceptions under state bans, and also “a congenital birth defect, plus severe medical conditions”.

“It is important to note that historically, most abortions conducted during the later stages of pregnancy were the result of severe fetal abnormalities that probably would have led to the death or stillbirth of the child. Perhaps even the death of the mother. These cases were extremely rare and typically occurred after several consultations between the woman and her doctor. As a community, we should embrace these common-sense standards. Again, timing matters,” she stated.

Melania Trump calls for empathy for mothers considering abortion

In stark contrast to MAGA supporters backing her husband Donald Trump, Melania Trump appealed for empathy for mothers considering abortion in her book.

"Many women opt for abortions due to personal medical concerns. These situations with significant moral implications weigh heavily on the woman and her family and deserve our empathy. Consider, for example, the complexity inherent in the decision of whether the mother should risk her own life to give birth.”

“When confronted with an unexpected pregnancy, young women frequently experience feelings of isolation and significant stress. I, like most Americans, am in favor of the requirement that juveniles obtain parental consent before undergoing an abortion. I realize this may not always be possible. Our next generation must be provided with knowledge, security, safety, and solace, and the cultural stigma associated with abortion must be lifted," Melania added.

“The slogan ‘My Body, My Choice’ is typically associated with women activists and those who align with the pro-choice side of the debate. But if you really think about it, ‘My Body, My Choice’ applies to both sides – a woman’s right to make an independent decision involving her own body, including the right to choose life. Personal freedom," she concluded on a note of solidarity.

Melania Trump's stance on abortion surprises Internet

Social media users took to X to express their views on the irony of having a Trump family member speaking strongly in support of abortion rights.

"This is what we call delicious irony," wrote one X user.

"This is going to rattle the extremist Right. I love it," said another.

"She’s voting VP Harris," one person commented.

"Maybe she can join up with #RepublicansforHarris?" asked someone else.

"Oh c**p. After everything, now we have to give Melania an atta girl! Pro-choice Melania, who has refused to join DJT campaigning, may be the best Melania!" noted one individual.
