Describing the shooter as a “monster” who saw her husband “as an inhuman political machine,” Melania emphasized that “political games are inferior to love".

Melania Trump releases lengthy statement about assassination attempt on Donald Trump
Donald Trump's campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, July 13, turned chaotic after a gunman fired shots at the former president.
The Secret Service agents immediately surrounded Trump, who ducked to the ground after covering his ears following multiple gunshots.
The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Pennsylvania, was shot and killed by the Secret Service. The FBI is currently investigating the incident.
Despite the shooting, Trump, 78, is reportedly “fine” and plans to attend the Republican National Convention.
He made a defiant fist pump before being whisked away by the Secret Service and was later seen walking down the steps of his Boeing 757 'Trump Force One', after receiving treatment at Butler Memorial Hospital.
This assassination attempt is the closest a US president has come to being killed since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. The attack resulted in one rallygoer's death and critically injured two others.
“To the families of the innocent victims who are now suffering from this heinous act, I humbly offer my sincerest sympathy. Your need to summon your inner strength for such a terrible reason saddens me,” Melania expressed in her statement.
“The core facets of my husband’s life — his human side — were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times."
In response to the tragic event, the Trump campaign has set up a GoFundMe page for the victims.
Trump extended his condolences to the victims’ families and thanked the Secret Service for their swift action. “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of law enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania," he wrote on Truth Social.
"Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.”
President Joe Biden also denounced the attack and called Trump to express his sympathies. The FBI continues to investigate the shooting as an assassination attempt.
