WASHINGTON, DC: First Lady Melania Trump hosted a global summit in Washington, on Tuesday, March 24, bringing together representatives from 45 nations to focus on children’s education and digital well-being.

The two-day “Fostering the Future Together” Global Coalition Summit began with a working session at the US Department of State.

According to the White House, the event marks the first time a US First Lady has convened such a large international gathering in a single day. The summit aims to promote collaboration on education, technology and online safety for children.

The summit opened with remarks from Melania, who welcomed a wide range of international leaders, first spouses and representatives from major technology companies.

The initiative, “Fostering the Future Together,” is described as a coalition of nations working to empower children through improved access to education and digital tools.

In her address, the First Lady emphasized the importance of international cooperation and shared responsibility.

“As people, we dream. As leaders, we progress. As nations, we will build. Beginning today, let’s accelerate our new global alliance, this bond, to positively impact the progress of our children,” she said.

She further underscored the coalition’s priorities, stating, “Our shared vision prioritizes children above political philosophy, geographical borders, and local prejudices.” The summit included participation from countries across multiple regions, alongside technology firms involved in advancing educational tools and digital platforms.

Discussions during the working session focused on key areas such as educational technology, artificial intelligence in learning, online safety, and digital literacy. Participants explored ways to expand access to digital resources while addressing risks associated with online environments.

Melania's initiative builds on ‘Be Best’ program

The “Fostering the Future Together” initiative builds on Melania's “Be Best” campaign, launched in 2018 to address children’s well-being, online safety, and challenges such as opioid abuse. The current initiative expands that focus by incorporating global partnerships and technological development.

Last year, the First Lady joined President Donald Trump in signing an executive order aimed at increasing support for teenagers in the foster care system.

Reflecting on the measure, she said, “This executive order gives me tremendous pride. It is both empathetic and strategic,” adding, “I predict this small spark today will ignite a profound and lasting nationwide movement."

In her closing remarks for the opening session, the First Lady called on participants to take concrete steps toward achieving the coalition’s goals, including hosting regional meetings, conducting research, and forming new partnerships.

“Together, we can expand access to education and technology and equip the next generation with the skills they need to succeed,” she said. The summit continues through March 25, with further discussions aimed at advancing international cooperation on education and digital development for children.
