WASHINGTON, DC: First Lady Melania Trump has helped reunite another Ukrainian child with their family, bringing the total to 34 children and families she has helped bring back together during the Russia-Ukraine war.

The latest reunion happened on Monday, August 17. Melania has been pushing for these reunifications since she wrote a peace letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the White House, her work has now made it possible for 34 children and their families separated by the conflict to find each other again.

“There is nothing more powerful than reuniting a mother with her child after an extended period of time.”

“My representative and I are focused on helping facilitate the next reunification of individuals who have been separated from their loved ones because of the war between Ukraine and Russia,” asserted First Lady Melania Trump.

This latest reunion is one more success in Melania’s ongoing push to bring children back to their families.

Since she launched her diplomatic effort, she has worked closely with officials from both Ukraine and Russia, focusing on reconnecting kids separated by the war.

The White House described Monday’s development as another result of Melania’s ongoing efforts, bringing the total number of reunifications to 34.

The latest reunification involving the Ukrainian girl and her family comes as Kyiv launched one of its biggest attacks of the war, sending hundreds of drones across Russia.

Earlier this month, Melania Trump announced she and her team had helped a fifth group of Ukrainian and Russian children reunite with loved ones. The Russian youngsters had been living in Ukraine with their families before the war started and got separated from kin.

The United Nations said in March it had verified the kidnapping of more than 1,200 kids across five regions of Ukraine. The Ukrainian government claims the true number is as high as 20,000.

Melania Trump opened communication with Vladimir Putin

Melania wrote to Russian President Vladimir Putin in August 2025, urging him to protect children affected by the war. Her letter was hand-delivered by President Donald Trump in Alaska when he met with the Russian leader.

Putin responded by declaring Melania had an “open channel of communication” with him, the first lady said.

She has put children’s issues front and center during her husband’s second term. Beyond her involvement in Ukraine, Melania has advocated for foster kids and pushed teachers to keep up with new technology, AI included.

Melania and her team have relied on diplomatic back channels to reunite Ukrainian kids with their families.
