Memes explode as Internet can’t get over Marco Rubio’s ‘Maduro Nike Tech’ outfit

WASHINGTON, DC: Whether Donald Trump eventually adds Venezuela to the US remains to be seen, but for now, his Secretary of State seems to have already snatched away one thing closely tied to the Venezuelan dictator: his signature tracksuit style.

Marco Rubio once again sent the internet into a frenzy on Tuesday, May 12, after viral photos captured him ditching his typical black suit for a more casual gray Nike Tech fleece outfit, an unusually casual look for a top US official traveling on official business.

The outfit instantly sparked comparisons to the viral ‘Venezuela Nike Tech’ meme, which exploded online earlier this year after photos of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro sporting a nearly identical tracksuit began circulating across social media.

Maduro was reportedly dressed in the very same tracksuit model when US forces took him into custody in early January. President Trump subsequently blasted out a photo of a blindfolded and handcuffed Maduro in his Nike Tech sweats.

The image quickly went viral on internet, triggering a wave of memes and jokes.
