NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A tense moment unfolded at the glamorous Met Gala 2026 when a protester suddenly breached security, sending shockwaves through the star-studded red carpet.

The incident took place on Monday, May 4, just outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where celebrities had gathered for fashion’s biggest night.

What started as a typical evening filled with flashing cameras and designer looks quickly turned chaotic when a man, believed to be protesting Amazon and its labor practices, forced his way through the crowd and headed straight toward the event’s entrance.

Protester storms red carpet barriers

According to an eyewitness, the situation escalated rapidly across the street from the gala entrance. The protester reportedly “pushed his way through the crowd of fans and press” gathered behind a steel barrier along Fifth Avenue.

From there, things moved fast. He jumped over the first barricade, ran through moving traffic along the busy avenue near Central Park, and then cleared a second steel barrier separating him from the high-security red carpet area.

The sudden breach caught many off guard. With A-listers just feet away, the atmosphere shifted from glamorous to tense within seconds.

Police acted quickly, with nearly a dozen officers tackling the man before taking him into custody. He was then removed from the scene, bringing the situation under control before it could escalate further.

Tom Ford moves to protect Julianne Moore amid scare

One of the most talked-about moments from the incident involved fashion designer Tom Ford and actress Julianne Moore, who were standing on the red carpet when the protester made his move.

“He was only about 20 feet away from them,” a witness said, describing just how close the situation came to turning dangerous.

As the chaos unfolded, Ford instinctively reacted. “Tom instinctively put his arms around Julianne to protect her,” the witness shared.

The moment stood out not just because of the sudden danger, but also because of how quickly those nearby responded.

What had been a calm red carpet scene turned into a protective scramble within seconds.

Actor Connor Storrie was also reportedly present on the carpet at the time of the incident.

Protest linked to Jeff Bezos criticism and Amazon backlash

The protester is believed to be part of a group targeting Amazon and its founder, Jeff Bezos, particularly over ongoing criticism of the company’s labor practices.

The Met Gala this year had a direct connection to Bezos, as he and his wife Lauren Sanchez Bezos were serving as sponsors and honorary chairs of the event.

Lauren had already walked the red carpet earlier in the evening and had been inside the venue for over an hour when the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, Bezos himself had not yet been spotted on the red carpet at the time the protester rushed the barricades, according to a source present at the scene.

The protest appears to be part of demonstrations surrounding the event, which had already seen heightened security due to tensions linked to the tech giant.
