WASHINGTON, DC: Michael Cohen repeatedly calling Donald Trump the "boss" during his testimony was his attempt to persuade the jury that Trump was always in charge of his conduct, a New York lawyer Colleen Kerwick told Newsweek.

Kerwick says Cohen is trying to refute Trump's claim that his fixer operated alone.

Lawyer explains Cohen's strategy behind calling Trump ‘boss’

She said, "Cohen calling Trump 'boss' is planting seeds in the minds of the jurors that Trump had the final say or at least vicarious liability for Cohen's actions."

Cohen said in his hearing on May 13 that he always called Trump 'boss' and provided many instances to support his claim. Among these was the day he learned that playboy model Karen McDougal was trying to sell her story to the tabloid National Enquirer, claiming to have had an affair with Trump.

Cohen claimed to have visited Trump's office and said "Boss, I gotta talk to you" before informing him about the McDougal issue. He told the court, "I was doing everything I could and more in order to protect my boss, which is something I had done for a long time."

As the presumed Republican front-runner for the presidency in 2024, Trump will be the first former president to go on trial for a criminal offense in American history.

Trump has entered not guilty in response to 34 charges of fabricating company documents. He has maintained his political motivation for bringing this lawsuit as well as other criminal and civil actions against him.

The prosecution aims to establish that Trump paid McDougal and adult film star Stormy Daniels or discussed paying them before the 2016 presidential election in order to conceal his alleged relationships. He disputes having relationships with both women.

Cohen, who claims to be Trump's lawyer and 'fixer', is accused by the prosecution of making the payment to Daniels on Trump's behalf and then getting paid back.

Additionally, they contend that the payment was unlawful since it was made to silence Daniels and influence the 2016 presidential race. Trump refutes the charges.

Internet slams Michael Cohen for trying to prove that he never acted alone

Many people on the internet slammed Michael Cohen as he said in his hearing that he always called Trump 'boss' and provided many instances to support his claim.

A user wrote on X, "Money has become their God. The whole world is corrupted by this paper currency" while one added, "Cohen just confirmed under oath Trump only cared about these affairs because he was running for President. Checkmate."

A person also stated, "The judge will never get the smell of Cohen off his bench..." whereas one mentioned, "You did all that for him and he doesn’t even treat you like the person that got his coffee. The strange things some do for money and power. At the end he got neither."

One person said, "I would never believe anything that this guy said anyway.."

One user said, "Sounds to me like Cohen hoped he could extort Donald Trump's friends and associates out of money as well as Trump Seems odd to me the guy that anointed himself as a Fixer is the only guy that defrauded caused and created the most damage from the get go for everyone"
