WASHINGTON, DC: Michael Cohen, the former 'fixer' for Donald Trump, testified during Trump's criminal trial that the former president has been using the same legal tactic for almost a decade, stated Newsweek.

Notably, the former president has been on trial for the last four weeks on 34 criminal counts related to payments made as hush money before the 2016 presidential election. Trump entered a not-guilty plea.

The key witness in the case is Cohen, a former friend of Trump who is now a rival. Cohen stated during his testimony as one of the district attorney's office's last witnesses on Monday, May 13, that Trump has been using the same legal tactic since 2016.

Despite the vast range of Trump's legal issues, he is said to have used the same strategy to combat them: delay. Legal observers have noted that considering the volume of protracted, last-minute filings and appeal requests, Trump and his legal team have been trying to push back their legal concerns until after the 2024 election.

Notably, Cohen stated in his testimony on Monday that Trump has a prior practice of requesting delays in his legal issues. He claimed that although he was assigned to handle the Stormy Daniels situation, he had no plans to follow through on his commitments.

Moreover, Cohen stated in court that he was notified less than a month before the 2016 election that Daniels—who claims she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006—was circulating her tale.

Cohen saw her as a 'disaster' of a threat to Trump's presidential campaign, given that he was the man who rose to fame for going to such lengths to shield his business partner.

According to Cohen, when he spoke with Trump, he was told to "take control" of the issue and "just get past the election," as Trump wouldn't care if he lost or won, since he would just be the president.

Moreover, Cohen claimed to have been "following directions" when he decided to pay Daniels $130,000 for the life rights to her tale against Trump, after first trying to avoid having to pay her.
