WASHINGTON, DC: According to a new book, ex- Donald Trump administration defense secretary Jim Mattis called the former president 'a madman in a circular room screaming', Independent wrote.

Tom Bossert, who served as Donald Trump's homeland security advisor from 2017 to 2018, made the disclosure, which then appeared in 'The Situation Room: The Inside Story of Presidents in Crisis'.

The new book by journalists George Stephanopolous and Lisa Dickey, which is scheduled for publishing next week, explores the history of presidential crises since John F Kennedy.

According to a Guardian review, Bossert informed the authors that Trump shied away from situation room briefings because he didn't enjoy having to go to the room and thought the generals should come to him instead. Bossert said, "I mean, you couldn’t get Mattis into the White House."

As per The Atlantic he told Trump, "You’re going to have to get the next secretary of defense to lose to ISIS. I’m not going to do it." Additionally, in 2020, Mattis sent a letter to The Atlantic criticizing Trump's administration.

He wrote, "Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people — does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership."

Notably, Journalist Bob Woodward mentioned in his 2020 book 'Rage' that General Mattis had declared Trump to be 'unfit', 'dangerous', and lacking in a moral compass as president.

Moreover, Trump publicly criticized Mattis and expressed his satisfaction with Mattis' resignation. He said of Mattis in 2020, "His primary strength was not military, but rather personal public relations. I gave him a new life, things to do, and battles to win, but he seldom ‘brought home the bacon.’ I didn’t like his ‘leadership’ style or much else about him, and many others agree. Glad he is gone!"
