Michael Douglas shades Cher’s Oscar win, says Glenn Close should have won
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Though decades have passed since Cher's 1988 Oscar win for ‘Moonstruck’, Michael Douglas has expressed his displeasure with the decision.
The 82-year-old actor also claimed that his ‘Fatal Attraction’ co-star Glenn Close should have won at the time, as reported by PEOPLE.
Both Douglas and the 79-year-old actress appeared on an October 30 episode of the UK’s ‘The Graham Norton Show’, where the latter shared that she’s receiving an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards in November.

Michael Douglas says Glenn Close deserved an Oscar over Cher
She also joked that she’s getting the award because the Academy members “probably don’t want to feel guilty anymore,” because of her eight career Oscar nominations. Close, however, has not won a trophy yet.
To which the ‘Basic Instinct’ actor said, “She should have won with Fatal Attraction. She was nominated, I believe, [for] her fourth [time for] Fatal Attraction. Cher won that year.”
“Was that for Moonstruck?” Norton asked, before saying, “Oh wow!”
Douglas then replied, “I know. That’s what we all said,” making Close, Norton and fellow guests Kieran Culkin and Naomi Ackie laugh.

Michael Douglas calls Glenn Close's 'Fatal Attraction' performance 'the greatest'
“The shade! The shade, mate!” Ackie said, before the veteran actor added that Close’s performance in ‘Fatal Attraction’ remains one of “the greatest performances of all time.”
“But Cher put some grey in her hair — so there you go,” Norton added.
Douglas was seen as Dan Gallagher in the erotic psychological thriller. Close played the role of his colleague Alex Forrest. In the movie, Gallagher and Forrest begin an affair that eventually turns dangerous.

The 1987 film received six total Oscar nominations, including one for the Best Actress category. But Close lost it to Cher’s performance in ‘Moonstruck’, a rom-com. Other actresses who received nominations that year were Holly Hunter (Broadcast News), Sally Kirkland (Anna), and Meryl Streep (Ironweed).
Michael Douglas recalls Glenn Close's audition
Also, during the interview, Douglas revealed how Close was not the initial choice of ‘Fatal Attraction’ filmmakers.
“Everybody thought that Glenn was not right for the part, and so we moved on, and her agent called and said, ‘You don’t understand, Glenn will audition,’” he revealed.
The Academy-winning actor added, “Glenn had already got three Oscar nominations for actress, and we said, ‘We can’t ask her!’ And she said, ‘She’s insisting,’ and she came in, and I ask anyone to see this tape, and she blew us away. We have never been so wrong in our lives. We remember looking at each other feeling like total idiots. She was in total command.”
