Michael Flynn sparks debate as he denies 'fake news' of being Trump's VP pick in 'unauthorized FEC filings'
WASHINGTON, DC: Michael Flynn, a staunch ally of Donald Trump, swiftly dismissed social media claims suggesting he had been selected as the former president's vice presidential running mate.
The controversy sparked when a purported Federal Election Commission filing circulated on Twitter, showing Flynn's name listed under the title "Vice President" within a Trump fundraising group.
Flynn responded on his social media account, categorically dismissing the allegations as "fake news." He stated, "I just saw 2 unauthorized FEC filings referencing my name. They are fake news! I don't know anything about them, and my office has alerted the FEC."

Deceptive filings and misinformation surrounding Michael Flynn's endorsement
This rebuttal came after Michael Flynn officially endorsed Trump's 2024 campaign, contributing to the confusion caused by fake filings akin to previous political hoaxes.
According to a report by Jordan Green, such deceptive committees have misled the public before, including one falsely suggesting former Vice President Mike Pence's participation in a 2024 presidential campaign.
"In late 2022, for example, someone created a federal political committee indicating that former Vice President Mike Pence had formed a 2024 presidential campaign committee," said Green.
"But the committee was a fraud, and Pence's representatives scrambled to correct the record and debunk several premature media reports that Pence, who ultimately would run for president months later, had entered the race," he added, according to Raw Story.
When asked last week about the Trump-Flynn filing, the Trump campaign confirmed it was fake, denouncing the committee named "Donald J. Trump and Michael Flynn for President 2024 Inc."
Flynn also clarified his stance in response to the initial report, affirming that he is not being considered for the role of Trump's vice presidential running mate.
