Michael Moore urges Biden to pass 'bucket list' in final 100 days, gives list of bold actions to be taken
WASHINGTON, DC: Michael Moore has called on President Joe Biden to take decisive action in his final 100 days in office, urging the 81-year-old president to pass a “bucket list” of transformative policies.
In a post on Moore's Substack on Saturday, October 12, Moore emphasized that Joe Biden has “full immunity” and does not need to “answer to anyone,” referring to a recent Supreme Court ruling that grants presidents immunity for official actions.
Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity
Michael Moore's encouragement comes in light of a recent split decision by the US Supreme Court, which determined that presidents are immune from legal repercussions for official acts taken during their presidency.
This ruling, the author argues, means Biden has the freedom to pursue significant reforms without fear of legal consequences.
“You don’t answer to anyone. For the first time in over 50 years, you don’t have to campaign for anything," emphasized Moore, adding, "You have an extraordinary opportunity to make a whole bunch of things happen.”
Michael Moore's 'bucket list' of policy changes
Michael Moore's suggested “bucket list” includes 13 major actions Joe Biden could implement through executive powers, ranging from social justice initiatives to foreign policy shifts.
Some of the key items on Moore’s list include, pardoning Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor who exposed government surveillance programs, canceling student and medical debt, clemency for non-violent drug offenders, officially declaring the Equal Rights Amendment (E.R.A.) as the 28th Amendment, closing Guantanamo Bay, ending the trade embargo on Cuba, withdrawing support for Israel’s war against Hamas, and bringing Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table for diplomatic action to end Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Michael Moore says it's Joe Biden's final chance to shape his legacy
Michael Moore also stressed that Joe Biden has a unique opportunity in his remaining time in office to make lasting change.
He cautioned that Biden’s legacy might be shaped by current foreign policy, particularly US involvement in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
“Don’t let the violence that you are funding and allowing against the people of Palestine become what your presidency will be remembered for,” urged Moore.
He added that Biden still has the chance to be remembered as a hero by implementing policies that would directly improve the lives of millions.
Moore’s call to action is underpinned by his belief that the president, unburdened by the need to campaign or answer to political opponents, can wield his presidential authority in unprecedented ways.
“You can get away with anything! And what if anything means everything to the people?” wrote Moore wrote, according to Mediaite.
