WASHINGTON, DC: The speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, announced a new award for President Donald Trump and presented him with a "beautiful golden statue" during the National Republican Congressional Committee's annual dinner in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, March 25.

Trump received the award before he addressed the NRCC’s annual fundraiser. Johnson said Republicans wanted to bestow the President with a new honour for working "around the clock to fix every issue." and solve "all the domestic problems."

“We wanted to do one thing before we bring the president out to the stage,” Johnson said, before revealing that House Republicans created a new award to honor Trump as he works tirelessly round the clock and solves every domestic issue.

Republicans introduce ‘America First Award’ for Trump

“We want to honor him in some small way, some token of our appreciation for his leadership. And so, tonight, we have created a new award,” Johnson said.

“We’re going to do something we’ve never done before. We’re going to honor him with a new award that we’ll present annually from this point forward. But he is the suitable and fitting recipient of the first-ever America First Award. We could think of no better title for what that is,” he explained.

“That’s this beautiful golden statue here. Appropriate for the new golden era in America,” Johnson added.

During his speech, Johnson also informed that the NRCC collected a record $18.5 million in the first quarter. He also introduced Trump, who reportedly went up onstage to receive the honor. However, the live feed of the president's speech at the NRCC fundraising dinner didn't show him accepting the trophy from Johnson.

Trump slams Democrats at NRCC fundraiser dinner

While speaking at NRCC’s fundraising dinner, Trump criticised Democrats for their behaviour during the State of the Union address. Recalling the Democrats' conduct, the president said that they “sat there like dead people, emotionless, no clapping, nobody standing,” showing “no movement, no heart” even when there were emotional moments.

Trump also won the FIFA Peace Prize in 2025
