Miley Cyrus reveals she almost 'ruined' Maxx Morando’s surprise proposal by patting him down
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Miley Cyrus has shared rare and funny details about her engagement to her fiancé, Maxx Morando, that happened in 2025.
The Grammy winner opened up about one of the most beautiful times of her life during a sit-down with Zane Lowe for Apple Music on Thursday, September 17, while explaining how the proposal actually happened in Japan.
Miley Cyrus discloses she 'pat down' Maxx Morando before his proposal
She recalled, “Me and Maxx were actually going on a walk… and because I won’t allow anything to happen organically for this man, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna pat him down. I bet he has an engagement ring. This would be the best time.’”
But she could not find it.
Cyrus, whose new album ‘Bass Persuades’ is releasing on September 18, noted that she felt disappointed. She, however, convinced herself to remain calm.
“I go into the bathroom. I’m like, ‘Don’t do this right now. Don’t take a beautiful time and throw a tantrum. It’s not very becoming of you and you’re a brat.’ I was thinking, ‘He doesn’t have it and don’t ruin this trip by throwing a tantrum.’ I wanted to throw it so bad,’” she told Lowe.

But to the ‘Hannah Montana’ star’s surprise, Morando, 27, actually had the ring, and he proposed to her while the two were walking.
“I turned around ‘cause I gasped and he was on one knee. He totally got away with it. He’s on the ground like, so sweet, and has a thing and says, ‘You’re the love of my life. Will you marry me?’ I was like, ‘Oh my God, I almost botched it.’ He was like, ‘So bad. You really almost truly ruined it,’” Cyrus shared.
Further expressing her happiness over her love life, the ‘We Can't Stop’ hitmaker added, “This part of my life is something I’ve always wanted, and this is what I hope other people get to have, what I have. I don’t know if everybody gets to find their Maxx.”
Maxx Morando said his 'heart was pounding' before he proposed
Cyrus’ revelation came a few months after Morando shared his side of the story to Wonderland magazine in July.
He revealed that he was “sweating” before asking the big question to Cyrus.
“I could feel my heart pounding. You grow up as a kid watching the movies where the guy gets on one knee and does the whole thing, and you know that’s what you’re supposed to do. But then you realize, ‘Okay, I literally have to get on one knee.’ I didn’t want to f**k up and fumble or drop the [ring],” he had stated.
