Millie Bobby Brown faces backlash as fans 'weirded out' by new clothing line ad campaign
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Millie Bobby Brown is no stranger to the limelight after captivating audiences on 'Stranger Things' as a child star.
Since then she has expanded her horizons, diving headfirst into the beauty and fashion industries. However, her latest venture, Florence by Mills Fashion, has stirred up a storm of critical opinions.
Millie Bobby Brown faces backlash over modeling skills
Despite Millie Bobby Brown's undeniable talent and fanbase, the actress-turned-entrepreneur has found herself at the center of controversy, as critics question her modeling ability and raise concerns over her appearance.
Brown recently took to Instagram to share the exciting news that her clothing line would soon grace the racks of Nordstrom, one of America's most prestigious luxury department stores.
While many were thrilled at the announcement, eagerly awaiting the chance to try her cozy microthermal loungewear, some Internet users had a different reaction.
Photos from her campaign quickly sparked online discussion, particularly on Reddit's Pop Culture Chat community. Beyond her modeling chops, there was also chatter surrounding the photoshoot itself.
Some pointed out what they perceived as cosmetic enhancements, although the actress has never publicly commented on any such procedures.
One comment stood out, "Just cause you’re gorgeous doesn’t mean you can model lol." The remark seemed to encapsulate the mixed feelings some held about her foray into fashion.
Following suit, another observer added, "Someone should’ve told her the model face she was going for just isn’t it."
Additionally, a viewer pointed out, "Imagine my shock when I read she is 20 YEARS OLD ! I’m seeing lip fillers already, what’s going on ???"
A follower contributed, "I feel so bad for the societal pressures that lead such young girls to do this. She looks so much older than her age, it feels like they're robbing themselves of stages in life."
A comment underscored, "Yeah, that weirded me out. Between all the fillers and the makeup, she looks a good 15 years older than she is."
Another comment echoed, "Is the photoshoot supposed to feel super candid instead of editorial? It all looks like an influencer trying to convince me their life is good."
Millie Bobby Brown reflects on her challenging fashion journey
For Millie Bobby Brown, though, her fashion journey has been anything but straightforward.
In a candid interview with Elle earlier this year, she reflected on her early experiences in the industry. “[When 'Stranger Things' took off,] I was 10. I was going to these events and ceremonies, and all these big fashion brands wanted to style me,” she said.
However, navigating the fashion world at such a young age wasn’t easy for her. “I didn’t know what my personal style was, and the only time I got dressed, other than for ceremonies, was to go to work."

This struggle to define her own style is what inspired her to create Florence by Mills Fashion. "As I got older, I was like, ‘What is my personal style?’ A lot of my friends already knew [their styles], but I didn’t know mine,” she revealed.
Brown's clothing line is her way of addressing that confusion - not just for herself but for other young people trying to find their footing in fashion.

“For me, fashion has always been ever-evolving. It’s fluid, and I wanted to create something so that girls going through that similar experience have a resource to be able to try innovative new outfits and styles and phases."
One of the standout features of her new collection is accessibility. With prices ranging from $28 to $67, Brown's goal is to provide affordable fashion options for her generation.
"I wanted to be able to create something that was accessible to my generation, to my demographic so that when they go into a store, they feel like they have that one corner — even if it’s a corner in the back — that they have what they’re looking for, and they’re able to afford it," she shared.
Millie Bobby Brown champions individuality with Florence by Mills
Unlike many young celebrities who seem to follow fleeting trends, Millie Bobby Brown is focused on individuality. "I could follow trends, but Florence isn’t about following trends," she stated emphatically.
Her clothing line, much like her beauty brand, emphasized personal expression over conformity.
“Everybody sees things in a different perspective, and I want people to be able to really form their own style, opinion, perspective with Florence, whether that be with makeup and skincare or with our apparel or with our coffee.”

That’s right - coffee. In an unexpected twist, Brown's brand expanded into the beverage world last year with a coffee range. "We don’t all need to make our coffee the same way!" she said with a laugh, further underscoring her belief in individuality.
But for all her success, Brown remains grounded in one key principle: inclusivity. “If one person can’t wear it, I’m not interested in making it,” she said.
Her approach to fashion also mirrors this philosophy.
“It needs to be for everyone. I went into that mindset with makeup and skincare, and that brand value did not change when we [went] into apparel.”
