NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On April 8, during MSNBC's 'Morning Joe', the discussion revolved around Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign. There were concerns raised regarding Vanity Fair special correspondent Gabriel Sherman's observation of Trump's apparent enhanced capability, marking a shift in his political demeanor.

In his recent article titled 'Inside the Terrifyingly Competent Trump 2024 Campaign,' Gabriel Sherman underscores the stark difference in the management of Trump's campaign compared to previous endeavors.

Hosts reflect on Trump's openness and structured 2024 campaign approach

'Morning Joe' shared a substantial excerpt from the article, which points out that "while Trump’s 2016 agenda was frequently hindered by internal conflicts and inefficiency, current indications suggest a second term would see a White House staffed by loyalists dedicated to executing his policies."

Sherman notes, "Most of all, Trump exhibits discipline because fear serves as a potent motivator. His wealth and liberty are on the line. The prospect of imprisonment terrifies him," and further states that "the looming criminal charges have helped resolve Trump’s messaging predicament."

After reading the excerpt, co-host Mika Brzezinski pointed out Trump's tendency to openly express authoritarian desires and present himself as retribution to his supporters.

She remarked, "He says a lot of the quiet part out loud, even the frightening part out loud."

Brzezinski also highlighted the campaign's new structure, which now includes Trump's daughter-in-law. She noted, "There are a lot of different factors to this that didn’t exist the first time around."

Sherman concurred, emphasizing that the 2016 campaign, and to some extent the 2020 campaign, were characterized by soap opera-like drama and clashes of personalities.

However, Sherman noted a stark contrast in the current election cycle, describing it as a "low-drama campaign."

He mentioned operatives who are focused on their tasks without seeking attention from the press or indulging their egos.

'Morning Joe' discusses Trump's campaign strategy amid legal concerns

According to Sherman, their primary goal is to secure Donald Trump's return to the White House in November 2024 because, as he emphasized in the piece, Trump's freedom is at stake.

"Really, the only thing that’s guaranteed to keep Donald Trump out of jail is becoming the next President of the United States and appointing an Attorney General who will get these charges thrown out," Sherman emphasized, adding, "It is really that simple."

Co-host Joe Scarborough then interjected, noting that campaign insiders have informed him of the objective to "basically minimize him as much as possible, keep his mouth shut, stop him from blowing himself up every day."

"Every time he opens his mouth, he creates a news cycle," Sherman concurred. adding, "This is a candidate who does create his own controversies, but, you know, that really is baked in now, I think, to his brand."

"That is a huge part of making him a more formidable candidate than he has been in the past," added Isaac Arnsdorf, national political reporter for The Washington Post.
