WASHINGTON, DC: Former Trump supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene called out the president and his administration as Joe Kent faces an FBI investigation. She shared a video calling him a “Gold Star husband” who has been deployed 11 times and said he could now end up in prison like Tina Peters, a “Gold Star mom.”

Joe Kent, a top aide to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, recently resigned from the Trump administration over the US war in Iran, and is being investigated for allegedly leaking classified information.

Kent is a former Army Green Beret and CIA paramilitary officer. He was appointed in early 2025 to lead the National Counterterrorism Center (NCC). He is also a Gold Star spouse, honoring the loss of his spouse while serving in the military.

MTG blasts Trump admin as FBI investigates Joe Kent

Greene criticized the Trump administration as Kent faces an FBI investigation. On Thursday, March 19, Greene shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “So the Trump admin is going to put Joe Kent in jail before anyone on the Epstein list or anyone from Obama’s Russia gate or anyone from Covid tyranny."

Greene’s post highlights what she considers unfair priorities. She said Kent, a Gold Star spouse and military veteran, is being targeted while other major cases, such as the Epstein list, the Russia investigation under Obama, and pandemic-related actions, are not being addressed.

She continued, "under Trump, I guess Joe Kent, Gold Star Husband and deployed 11 times, can join Tina Peters, Gold Star Mom, in prison.” She shared the post with a video from Laura Ingraham and highlighted comments from Rep Brandon Gill. He said, “If he was leaking classified information, he ought to be held accountable, just like anybody else would be.”

Greene used his case to criticize the administration, saying it demonstrates misplaced priorities. For those unaware, Kent is a former Army Green Beret and CIA paramilitary officer.

Joe Kent under FBI investigation for alleged leaks

Kent’s sudden resignation as director of the NCC has raised eyebrows across Washington. Sources said the FBI’s investigation into Kent began before he stepped down on Tuesday, March 17. Kent said he was leaving in protest of the US war against Iran, which began on February 28.

Multiple have claimed that the FBI is investigating Kent. The inquiry reportedly started before Kent resigned this week, citing frustrations with the Trump administration’s approach to the war with Iran. Sources say the FBI’s Criminal Division has been handling the matter for some time.

On the other hand, he urged President Trump to change course, writing on X, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”

The White House rejected Kent’s claims, insisting that Iran did pose a threat to the US. President Trump weighed in, saying, “I always thought he was a nice guy, but I always thought he was weak on security, very weak. When I read his statement, I realized it’s a good thing that he’s out, because he said Iran is not a threat. Every country realized what a threat Iran was.”

Shortly after Kent’s resignation, former deputy White House chief of staff Taylor Budowich hinted at the controversy, claiming Kent was “frequently at the center of national security leaks” and “focused on undermining the chain of command and the President.” He said, "Joe Kent is a crazed egomaniac who was often at the center of national security leaks, while rarely (never?) producing any actual work." Budowich did not specify what information Kent was alleged to have leaked.
