WASHINGTON, DC: It looks like there may be hope for Elon Musk and Donald Trump after all.

The Tesla billionaire appears to have extended an olive branch and is open to cooling things off after trading blows with the president.

It all went off the rails on Thursday, June 5, when Musk called for Trump’s impeachment and dropped a bombshell suggestion that the POTUS might be hiding files about Jeffrey Epstein to protect himself.

Trump hit back by floating the idea of cutting off Musk’s precious government contracts. All this because Musk’s former adviser kept urging Republicans to vote against Trump’s signature tax plan.

The drama seemed to hit a turning point after Tesla shares tanked by 14%, dragging Musk’s personal fortune down by a staggering $34 billion. That’s just from his public assets—it doesn't even count whatever happened to the private valuation of SpaceX, according to Bloomberg

Just hours after announcing that SpaceX would pull the plug on its Dragon spacecraft, he did a total 180.

“This is a shame this back and forth. You are both better than this. Cool off and take a step back for a couple days,” a random X user with barely 200 followers chimed in.

“Good advice,” Musk responded. “Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon.”

Even billionaire Bill Ackman, a friend to both Musk and Trump, tried to play peacekeeper, urging the pair to reconcile “for the benefit of our great country.” Musk replied, “You’re not wrong.”

With two of the GOP’s biggest power players suddenly at odds, Republican lawmakers were stuck in the middle, trying not to take sides.

Some in the party scrambled to play diplomat. House Speaker Mike Johnson tried to keep things on ice. “Policy differences shouldn’t be personal,” he told reporters and even called Musk a “friend.”

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the White House reportedly scheduled a call with Musk on Friday in hopes of ending the feud, according to Politico. They weren’t ready to comment on Thursday night, but it was clear the temperatures were cooling.

How the Donald Trump-Elon Musk feud began

It all started unraveling over a disagreement on Donald Trump’s GOP tax bill, but things quickly went south. Elon Musk accused the POTUS of being an ingrate, claiming he would never have made his way back to the Oval Office without his help.

Trump responded with a direct hit at Musk’s business empire. “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” he posted

That's not an empty threat. According to Bloomberg Government's data, SpaceX and Tesla have pulled in $22.5 billion in federal unclassified contracts since 2000. But canceling those deals isn’t easy—they’re deeply embedded in space and defense ops. For example, the Dragon spacecraft is a key player in hauling crew and cargo to the International Space Station.

Still, Musk wasn’t backing down. “Go ahead, make my day," he responded bluntly.

And when a Musk fanboy on X suggested Trump should be impeached and replaced by VP JD Vance, the tech mogul nodded in agreement. He doubled down, saying Trump’s tariff policies would tip the US into a recession by year’s end.
