Nancy Pelosi earns over $130M in stock profits during 37 years in Congress
WASHINGTON, DC: Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul Pelosi, achieved remarkable returns in the stock market over the course of her congressional career.
According to the New York Post, their combined profits exceed $130 million, reflecting an extraordinary 16,930 % return over nearly four decades.
Nancy Pelosi’s stock profits and portfolio growth
A copy of Pelosi’s hand-delivered 1987 financial disclosure form, submitted when she entered Congress, shows the couple reported owning between $610,000 and $785,000 in stocks. Early holdings included shares in companies such as Citibank and other firms that are no longer publicly traded.
Over time, that initial portfolio grew to an estimated $133.7 million, according Quiver Quantitative. The reported 16,930 % return “exceeds the 2,300 % gain of the Dow Jones during the same period.” Even accounting for compound interest, the portfolio achieved an annualized 14.5 % return, surpassing major market indexes that averaged 7 % to 9 %.
In 2023, analysis from stock-trading data site Unusual Whales reported a 65 % return on the Pelosi portfolio, more than double the S&P 500’s 24 % gain. Their investments reportedly delivered a 54 % return in 2024, outpacing the S&P 500 and every major hedge fund, Bloomberg reported.
Nancy Pelosi’s retirement announcement
Pelosi’s 2024 financial disclosure lists holdings in about two dozen individual stocks, including millions invested in NVIDIA, Palo Alto Networks, Salesforce, and Netflix. Apple represents the largest holding, valued between $25 million and $50 million.
The couple’s net worth is now estimated around $280 million, up from roughly $3 million when Pelosi first joined Congress. They also hold stakes in a Napa Valley winery worth between $5 million and $25 million, a Bay Area Italian restaurant, commercial real estate, and a political data and consulting firm.

The disclosure coincides with Pelosi, 85, announcing she will not seek re‑election after her current term ends in 2027. During her congressional career, Pelosi served as Speaker of the House twice, first from 2007 to 2011 and later from 2019 to 2023.
