Nancy Pelosi reveals she hasn’t spoken to Biden since he bowed out of 2024 race amid fallout speculations

WASHINGTON, DC: Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi revealed on Monday, July 5, that she has not spoken to President Joe Biden since he stepped down from the presidential race in July.

Notably, Biden stepped down from the race last month after a dismal debate performance against GOP nominee Donald Trump and he endorsed Kamala Harris as his replacement. She is now the Democratic presidential nominee for the November election and will face off against Trump.

During an interview with CNN's Dana Bash, Nancy Pelosi told the host that she has not talked to Joe Biden since he dropped out of the race.

“We’re all busy,” she said.

Bash asked whether she would like to speak with him in the future, to which Pelosi replied, "Yes." Bash further asked if her relationship with Biden was all right.

Pelosi said, "You’d have to ask him, but I hope so. Look, I love Joe Biden, respected him for over 40 years."

"I think he has made one of the biggest contributions to our country in the shortest period of time of any president you can name."

She added: "He's been a great president with a vision for our country based on values, knowledge, and judgment — and a heart full of love for the American people."

Notably, CNN had earlier reported that Pelosi had privately conveyed to Biden that polling showed he could not beat Trump and his run could destroy Democrats’ chances of winning the election.

A source at the time informed CNN that Biden denied it and told her that he had seen polls that showed he could win. Another source said that Biden was getting defensive about the polls.

It has also been widely speculated that this could have led to a fallout between Pelosi and Biden.

During the interview, Pelosi said that Harris is "very politically astute", pointing to her experience in winning a competitive primary for California attorney general.

Pelosi said, "She pulled that off because of her astuteness and I can go more into that but the fact is, you’ve seen in the past three weeks how she has managed the opportunity that is there."

Harris is reportedly expected to announce her running mate by Tuesday, August 6, after interviews with top contenders at her Washington, DC, residence over the weekend, as per Business Standard.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, US Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro are the top three contenders. She also met with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for 90 minutes on Friday, August 2, and also met other candidates virtually.
