Nancy Pelosi's office updates on her condition following hospitalization after she 'sustained' injury
DIEKIRCH, LUXEMBOURG: Nancy Pelosi, 84, was hospitalized on Friday after sustaining an injury while on an official visit to Luxembourg.
The former House Speaker was in the country with a bipartisan congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, one of the deadliest battles of World War II.
Nancy Pelosi undergoes treatment following injury
Nancy Pelosi's spokesperson Ian Krager issued a statement revealing, “Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation."
He assured that Pelosi is receiving “excellent treatment” and added that she would cancel the rest of her engagements on the trip.
According to a source, Pelosi fell down a set of stairs during the visit, but her injuries are not considered serious, as per Daily Mail.
Nancy Pelosi's tribute to veterans and European allies
Nancy Pelosi's visit to Luxembourg, hosted by current House Speaker Mike Johnson, included nearly 20 lawmakers from both parties.
The delegation aimed to honor the sacrifices of US and Allied forces during the historic battle that began on December 16, 1944.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe,” Krager added.
Pelosi expressed her pride in being part of the delegation, many of whom have personal connections to World War II veterans, including her own uncle, Johnny.
She was seen earlier on Friday, December 13 gripping the hand of Rep Michael McCaul, R-Texas, during a meeting with Luxembourg’s Grand Duke.
Parallels with other congressional leaders
Nancy Pelosi’s injury incident occurred just days after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 82, suffered a fall during a Senate lunch, resulting in a sprained wrist and a facial scrape.
Despite stepping down from an official Democratic leadership role in November 2022, Pelosi remains an influential figure in Congress.
Having recently won reelection in California, she has already indicated plans to run again in 2026.
Reports this week revealed Pelosi’s active role in internal Democratic politics, as she reportedly works to prevent Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 35, from securing a powerful House Oversight Committee position.
Ocasio-Cortez is vying to become the ranking member of the committee, competing against Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly.
Pelosi’s team confirmed she looks forward to returning to the US soon to continue her recovery, according to Daily Mail.
