WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has reportedly been exhibiting indications of growing dementia, according to a psychologist. New worries were raised by Trump's behavior and his numerous instances of nodding off during a trial in which he is accused of 34 felonies, as per Raw Story.

Notably, though spontaneous naps for a man Trump's age are not rare, Dr John Gartner, a psychologist and former assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, added it to his list of worries over the former president's mental health in light of the current events.

Donald Trump's court naps raise new concerns with psychologist

During an interview with Salon's Chauncey DeVega, Gartner stated, "Trump's trial in Manhattan is providing more evidence of his apparent cognitive decline. Trump fell asleep 4 out of 6 days of his own trial. Falling asleep is not in and of itself particularly specific to dementia."

He added, "I fall asleep at dinner parties, because I’m old and work too hard. Bill Clinton was famous for it. But can you remember a criminal defendant repeatedly unable to stay awake at his own trial? I can’t. It’s obviously very rare. Most people are pumped full of adrenaline when they’re in the dock."

He further explained, "This may be the first criminal trial I’ve been aware of where the defendant appears, in my opinion, to have dementia. Is it a coincidence that it’s also the only one I’ve ever known where the defendant can’t remain awake most days? Trump appears to be losing control of his basic biological functions. One is sleep-wake."

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. Moreover, Gartner also voiced concern that Trump's decline may be accelerated by the stress of the criminal trial, which might result in jail time.

He said, "The trial is really a form of psychological torture for a malignant narcissist who needs to appear powerful. Instead, he appears small, confused, and helpless."

Internet mocks Donald Trump as psychologist discusses new worries

People on the internet trolled Donald Trump as Dr John Gartner claimed that Trump has reportedly been exhibiting indications of growing dementia.

A user posted on X, "The narcissist in decline," while one added, "Oh no but Eric brags he’s so full of stamina." A person also added, "Is that anything like fermenting? Cause I think he's doing that too."

A user stated, "Couldn't happen to a sh***ier person" whereas one mentioned, "I'm sure he's medicated so he won't lash out and be disruptive."

A person also said, "I think it's intentional to show just how disrespectful of the system he is - just like everything else he does. His base eats it up" while one stated, "It has seemed so bizarre that he falls asleep in court. I would think it’s contempt of court to do that."
