NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Several individuals have been upset about a Tennessee lawmaker's proposal to rename Nashville International Airport after the 47th president, Donald Trump.

Republican State Representative Todd Warner of Tennessee submitted House Bill 217 on Friday, January 17, in a bid to rename Nashville International Airport in Trump's honor, per Fox News Digital.

As a result, many Nashville locals are not happy about the plan to rename the airport after Trump. They have turned to the internet to express their disapproval of the idea of having to fly out of Trump International Airport, with many pledging to relocate if the proposal is approved.

Lawmaker proposes renaming Nashville International Airport in Donald Trump's honor

While Tennessee has supported Trump in the last three presidential elections, the capital city is not exactly Trump territory, yet the new president defeated Vice President Kamala Harris by 64% of the vote.

Republican Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill) introduced a new bill (HB 0217) that might change the Nashville International Airport's name, prior to Monday, January 20, inauguration of the president-elect.

Nashville and other international airports run by urban airport agencies in counties with a population of 500,000 or more are subject to HB 0217.

These steps would involve correcting references with local, state, and federal agencies, modifying registered trademarks with the USPTO, putting up new signage, and updating all current contracts and legal papers to reflect the new name.

According to the bill, the airport is allowed to operate under the current name while "doing business as Trump International Airport" or "d/b/a Trump International Airport" during the transition time.

The bill's effective dates differ. It might come into force as soon as it is signed into law, or the name change and implementation will begin on January 1, 2026.

Legislators previously advocated renaming an airport after Trump. A group of House Republicans also lobbied for the renaming of Virginia's Washington Dulles International Airport in Trump's honor back in April 2024.

The bill was presented by House GOP chief deputy whip Rep Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa), along with six cosponsors.

If it is approved, it would become the second airport in the DC area to be named after a Republican commander-in-chief, following Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia.

In a prior interview with Fox News Digital, Republican Representative Barry Moore of Alabama stated that "it is only fitting that we would do the same for another one of our greatest presidents."

Nashville local residents threaten 'moving' out of capital city following HB 0217 proposal

Several internet users imploded over the renaming thing on Reddit and claimed to be "moving" out of the capital city, while others came in support of the HB 0217 decision.

One Redditor wrote, "I’ve been thinking of moving away from this backwater, this is one more reason," while a second one added, "I’m moving," per Whiskey Riff.

A third one disapproved of the renaming idea and said, "I will drive to Chattanooga, pay for airport parking, and likely have more stops to my final destination just to avoid supporting Donald Trump International Airport."

"If this for some reason actually happens, I’m quitting my job here," chimed in one while another remarked, "Well that’s one way to get me to take the move I’ve been contemplating more seriously."

Commentators on X (formerly Twitter) were equally enraged over the notion as one wrote, "My condolences, if that happens, to TN. I personally would never set foot in an airport named for him. Not even for a layover."

A second X user said, "I will never fly to an airport with that name," while another noted, "Gross. Give him an airport in Florida or something...leave us alone."

"What?! Why? He has no ties to the Volunteer state. Near blasphemy!" exclaimed one.

Another remarked, "I would very much be tempted to go to whatever nearest airport & drive into Nashville just not to land on that shit."

However, several MAGA fans supported the renaming as one wrote, "Beautiful!!! Anything named TRUMP is Grand!!"

Another exclaimed, "That’s awesome! Much more to come! I’m so excited and anxious about President @realDonaldTrump’s inauguration and have been counting down that I have been taking my anxiety meds for a week now. MAGA FOREVER!!"

"I love the thought of renaming Nashville International Airport to Trump Int'l. I wonder when, and if, we will start seeing elementary schools and high schools bearing his name," wrote another excited supporter.
